I wonder what corporation will be awarded the 2billion dollar contract to build it? Will there be a bidding process?

This is amazing. They have authorized money for a project that nobody has bid on yet. A project that involves a wall that was designed by who? The government? An aide in a senator's office?

Why can't they treat this like any other piece of defense equipment? If this were a plane the AF would get Boing, MD, Lockheed, et al together and say "Look, we need a plane that can do this, this and this and flies this fast with no radar signature. We'll take the best design."

So why not do this with the wall? Gather together various security and large scale building corporations and tell them, "we need a barrier that is difficult to cross, deters illegal immigration and is easy/cheap to maintain and patrol." Gather up a dozen or so designs and have them evaluated by a panel of security experts (who are unknown to the bidders - men behind the curtain if you will) and pick the best design. Then put the design out for competitive bid on the construction of the wall.

I'm all for a wall... but maybe we should see a few bids before we start authorizing funds?
