Meh, I was mainly showing that conservatives DO have plenty of good ideas for healthcare reform. The Patient Choice Act of 2009 is one shining example. It's not just "tax cuts" it's a philosophy that the patient/citizen is in control of their healthcare that defines the differences in the approaches. So without making it a YAHCT, I wanted to show the ideas. I haven't watched all of them, just little snippets.

And I would trust a doctor's opinion more than a non-doctor because, and call me naive, I think most all doctors want what is best for the patient.
A shining example???? You must be joking. Let's cherry pick a few of the most awful points made in the PCA2009:

1) "Emphasize Prevention" This item states that focusing on prevention will "lower long-term costs." Bullshit! We've already had one thread on ATPN that pointed out the CBO has determined that preventive care significantly INCREASES COSTS. Preventive care can't be justified on the basis of costs savings. Rather preventive care is good because it leads to better health, but at a price.

2) "Guaranteed access to care" AND "Affordable premiums": Gee, how would that work? Since the PCA2009 doesn't require people be covered, how can you both FORCE insurance companies to accept the sickest patients, FORCE low premiums, AND keep the insurance companies solvent? How is this magic accomplished? I wonder why PCA2009 doesn't have any specifics. Perhaps because it's all window dressing.

3) "Integrate low-income families with dependent children into higher-quality private plans though direct assistance." Who would pay for this? What would the total cost be? Funny, the PCA2009 doesn't say ANYTHING about cost.

And the crowning glory of the PCA2009 is that it would put medicare under the control of PRIVATE companies, on the claim that that will save money!! Think of it, Medicare has 5% overhead; private insurance companies have 20% overhead. But magically, by putting Medicare under private insurance companies, those 20% overhead costs are just going to disappear and miraculously we'll save money.

Spidey, you're a tool and a fool. PCA2009 is a shining example alright. A shining example of why the Republican party is the party of mental defectives.

I recall Sen. Bill Frist (also a doctor) claimed that he cast his "informed vote" in the Terry Schiavo case after looking at some videos of her and determining that she was in fact responsive, which was in opposition to the diagnosis of her ACTUAL doctors who had been attending to her for years.

LMAO. Indeed. Like anyone gives two shits about the opinion of Mc. Doctors in the senate. Nice try OP, you really didn't come out too good on this one. I don't need to look at the senate, I work with doctors all day long who support UHC. But I also work with ones who don't. I have yet to hear one who opposes UHC articulate a reason that didn't have something to do with money. It is never has anything to do with patients or the care they receive or would receive under UHC.

Imagine that spidey! Some Doctors protecting their best interests just like senate members who are in the back pocket of "fill in the blank". It's funny how you would think anyone would call you naive, though, when it comes to this. Willfully ignorant, yes. Naive, no.

A lot of the ideas they propose are very sound and puts to rest any idea of "well republicans have nothing, all they do is try to defeat". Very good information in these videos from people that obviously know what they are talking about.

"Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) will host the show every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Barrasso is an orthopedic trauma surgeon and former president of the Wyoming Medical Society, and Coburn is a family practice physician specializing in obstetrics. The senators will have guests on their show to discuss policy, as well as the "questions, stories, concerns and comments about health care proposals" from their constituents, according to a release. "

Well the OP has a point. It was utterly shameful how Democrats undermined the Republicans HealthCare Reform Bill. Nazi Death Panels, interrupting Town Halls, crying "Socialism". What comes around goes around. Doesn't it?......

Nonsense. PCA2009 presents no specifics. A "bill" that said, "More jobs, with excellent pay and benefits, for all Americans who want them." would be just about as useful.

There's a good reason the current Democratic bills run 1000 pages - they provide specifics. PCA2009 is a series of sound-bite statements without any details to say how any of it would work.

just as a point of principle, doctors should have little say in crafting the health care system, just like insurance companies, hospitals, etc shoudl have little say. Everyone has their own agenda and deferring to any specific interested group would certainly not be a wise or rational choice.

Right, so we should have people that have no idea about the subject matter determining legislation. That makes no sense at all.

Right, so we should have people who stand to profit the most determining legislation. That makes perfect spidey sense.
