She seems to think if she positions herself to be like McCain, and given McCain's popularity in her state, then she'll do well. She's overlooking the fact that even McCain was not popular among republicans anymore by the end.

Her core constituency can best be described as center-right never Trumpers. Mostly conservative on policy but are uncomfortable with Trump and the far right. That is about the narrowest constituency in the country right now as the center-righters mainly either moved farther right or became democrats.
