It's a mistake. He was ranking minority member in the 109th congress. Link (Thad Cochran was chairman)

but according to wikipedia, the 10 years aren't consecutive. he and Ted "the douchebag" Stevens have been passing it back and forth since the mid 90's

Gotta love it. The head of the Appropriations Committee couldn't figure that when someone gives you something that you keep in your living and room and use everyday for TEN YEARS, is a GIFT?
The irony.

Interesting, somebody's wrong.

My uscourts.gov link lists Cochran as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee chair, but Wiki lists Stevens?

Wiki has to be out of date, a dem would head all committees since 2006.

Incidentally when NPR reported this they also said there had been talk among the Dem Senate leadership in forcing Byrd out of this position. I greatly respect Byrd, but he's now pretty frail and 91 is way, way too old to be running the most powerful Senate committee.

Stupid seniority system.

Just visit his home state and you'll see his name on everything. When he dies thay should cast his body in bronze and place the statue outside the state capitol.
