Ok so what is the sempron proc anyway?

I always wanted to ask. Im guessing it is like the nextgen duron or amd's answer to the celeron.

How does it compare to lets say the old Xp procs?

The laptop i ordered had a Sempron 3100+ in it.

All i know is celerons sucked in the past whenever i used them so im just looking for a perfomance comparison or any info you have

yup, its the 64 bit amd duron/celeron

CPU tab might help, but they're just A64's with less cache and inflated ratings because they're compared to Celeron instead of P4.

On socket 754 a Sempron 3000+ was a little slower than an A64 2800+ in games, which still made it close to a P4 2.8 GHz or a Celeron 8.2 GHz 😉

Try subtracting 300 off the rating to compare to A64, or look at the clock and cache.

Yes the Sempron is basically the new Duron. Personally I was surprised by how fast it is. I upgraded to a Sempron 3300+ from an Athlon XP 3000+ and the performance increase was amazing. BTW I also have a Celeron D system and it is just miserably slow.

Alot of the Semprons overclock real well too. I have a 2600+ at 2.2ghz right now although I have had it as high as 2.4 and I have heard of people having them at up to 2.6ghz. For $50 thats real good.
