Well I have everything else.

I have an old 533mhz fsb Intel Motherboard laying around thinking about throwing a Celeron D in there and grabbing a stick of 512 for them.

Or should I get a sempron with a nice/cheap mobo that supports ddr400?

Best deal right now imho.

Monarchcomputer.com has 3100+ semprons for $100
Newegg.com has Epox 8kda3j for $73

Sempron 3100+. It is just a tad slower then the athlon 64 2800+. You will need a 3.6Ghz+ celly d to even come close in anything.

Thanks, I found out that mobo didn't support the celeron so I jumped on a new 2.53 p4 at 533fsb and a stick of 512 mushkin ddr.

In your situation, I would get whatever you can get CHEAP, and by cheap I mean CHEAP.

For just bowsing, who really cares how fast the CPU is? My P3- 1000MHz at work doesn't really seem that much slower than my 2.4GHz AthlonXP at home for crap like email and browsing. Sure I can tell a difference in some things but it's nothing I'd worry about for my parents.

My parents got my old SDRAM Athlon board with a 1333 Thunderbird. They are perfectly happy with that.
