Sempron 3000+ or Barton 3000+ ???

Hi... I've to upgrade the CPU on my A7V8X

Both Sempron 3000+ and Barton 3000+ are 333 bus and 512k L2 cache

but Sempron is 2000Mhz and Barton 2167Mhz

Which one is more powerful and why?

i didn't know they made a sempron 3000+. i thought it was just 2800 and 3100+ 754 socket

same here. anyways, tfinch, i recommend you get the 3100+ sempron for socket 754, and if you're wanting to stick to socket A, i recommend you get the mobile 2600+ and oc taht to ~2.4ghz or higher.

the barton is faster.

sempron 2400 ~ xp2200+
sempron 2500 ~ xp2300+/xp2400+
sempron 2800 ~ xp2500+/xp2600+

Price being equal...the Bartons. But why not just grab a mobile 2400 35 watter?

Wait, the Sempron 3000+ IS a Barton.

Do you mean Sempron 3000+ vs. AthlonXP 3000+?

If you do mean Sempron 3000+ vs. AthlonXP 3000+ then of COURSE the AthlonXP 3000+ is faster, because it runs 167 MHz faster. They are otherwise the exact same chip.

Either is more expensive than the best Socket A option, an AthlonXP-Mobile 2600+.

Socket A Sempron's do not use the Barton core. I forget the core name, but it is basically a Thoroughbred. It has a 266MHz bus (?) and 256KB L2 Cache.

Umm, I don't really know how to say this nicely, but the Sempr0n 3000+ DOES use a Barton core. Odd that you wouldn't at least check on that before trying to correct me.

If you look through that document you will see that the Sempron 3000+ is the only processor in it, the other semprons are in the document titled:
AMD Sempron Processor, Model 10 with 256K L2-cache Datasheet
while this document for the 3000+ is titled:
AMD Sempron Processor, Model 10 Datasheet

Now if you check page 77, you'll notice the AMD part number
SAD3000DUT4D
and the description that clearly indicates that the 4 means 512k L2 cache.

512k cache = Barton core.

yes, amd did introduce and relabed a barton as a sempron. why? i dunno. to confuse people, naturally.

i mean, if every single sempron (all the way from 2200, 2400, 2500, 2600, 2800, 3100) all had 256kb cache, it was easy to measure. now we have to make that exception of the 3000+ (especially when the 2800 and 3000 share the same mhz speed (2.0ghz, 12 x 166) but 512kb cache = +200)
