Here ya go.

Giga GA-K8NS
Sempron 2800 s754
OCZ 512MB PC3200
Win XP Pro SP2
WD 160gig 7200
Radeon 9600 Pro.

This is my girls rig, and im trying to see if I can overclock this thing alittle.

Its currently running at 26C. Which blows my mind, b/c my Barton runs at 43C. So I am sure I can push this cpu.

Never done anything with these semprons, what are some good settings and speeds to try out. How far do you think i can push this thing.

Thanks

IIRC, Semprons don't support CnQ, so you can't change the multiplier.

Start jacking up the FSB/HTT - check the A64 overclocking guide and follow those ideas. Just make sure that board has AGP/PCI locks on it.

i read a review of a sempron 2600+ that was OCed from 1.8ghz to 2.6ghz, it had the palermo core.

How can I find out which core I have?

Semprons 3000+ and up do support cool & quiet and have acess to lower multipliers.

Sempron with cool & quiet enabled.

Yep I have mine running w/ CnQ right now. :)

If I had to guess I'd say that you can push that CPU as far as your motherboard allows since those cpus use an 8x CPU multiplier. The 2800+ comes in D stepping and E stepping cores, if you have an E (the ones with SSE3 and maybe even amd64) then you can probably reach higher clockspeeds than a D stepping core (which is the winchester-analog).

Well the sempron overclocked like a dream, and I think I can push it even further.

Right now I have the FSB at 250, and its working perfectly. 250x8= 2gig. Not bad from 1.6. I didnt have to change the vcore or anything, and I am getting 25C. The problem is I think 250FSB is the highest my GA-K8NS will go. If I want to go any higher, looks like I will have to get a new board. Oh well, I am happy with the speeds right now.

I am downloading 3dmark to see the differences of the speeds.

THanks

I think my motherboard only goes up to 250fsb, when i set to 251 nothing works, and 1 mhz wouldnt stop everything.

I ran mine at 2500 for a while then 2400, now down to 2100. I have the same problem with any oc. 1. My maxtor serial ata does not work. 2. slow boot up time cycles through bios 2x's if I am at 2400+.
I can bench mark anything at 2500 though just a pain during the boot process.

cmon push it some more;). i had mine at 2.4 when an xp90 for like half a year, now with WC i can do 2.6+ but i got to give it some insane voltage.

I am sure I can push if more, i think my motherboard will only go to 250 fsb, unless I am doing something wrong.

At 250fsb i have the vcore at 1.4 and if i go up to 251 nothing works, lockups, I have even taken the vcore to 1.7 and still lockups. Not sure whats going on. I just think my motherboard doesnt support anything higher then 250. Also what if I change my HTL Multi????? Its at 4x, if I lower that what will that do? Will it make my setup slower? What do you think?

Thanks

Just reached 300fsb.

vcore 1.7
memory at 198mhz
v.2.5

temp at a cool 29C on stock hsf.

I changed the HTL to 3x and was able to push this thing all the way to 300.

Starting speed. 1.6 and I am now at 2.4. Not bad, I am rather impressed with these semprons. My barton couldnt even overclock at all, let alone get this high up. Is my settings of HTL Multi to 3x going to slow down my performance???

Thanks

3dmarks stock 3700
3dmarks O/C 4229

Is that not bad of an increase.

s754 Sempron 2800+ @ 2.4gig
512 PC3200 OCZ
WD 160gig 7200
BBA 9600 Pro 460/320 (stock 400/300)

My x800xt pe will be in today and I will test it out later.

Let me know what you guys think.

I've got a 2600+ Sempron (128KB L2, 1.6ghz) for my brother, and so far, I am getting it to: 315mhz htt. So, that = over 2500mhz! at ALMOST default vcore. Had to up it slightly. Not to shabby for a $70 cpu. I will probably just keep it at 2400mhz to be on the safe side with default vCore. So, I can say for the money, this is a VERY good overclock :)

Hey SniperX nice overclock on the sempron. You definitely had to lower Hypertransport multiplier to 3. The bus can not run past 1000mhz which is why you were having troubles at 251mhz x4 would be 1004mhz. I'm pretty sure it will perform better at 2.4 ghz with HTL at 900 than it would at 2.0ghz and HTL of 1000. You would probably get a good performance boost from using ram that can run at the bus speed, some good DDR600, but that stuff is pricey.

I have a couple questions for you as I am thinking about buying the exact same motherboard and processor. Could you post an Aquamark3 score with the gfx score and cpu score as well, the whole 3 part score. Also if you put the x800xt in the sempron system could you post a 3dmark 2001se score. Either benchmark can be downloaded at www.guru3d.com

Congrats on the overclock and thanks in advance if you could let me know how it performs :)

Update on the overclocking.

I put my x800 xt pe in this sytem.

3dmarks 03 score of 12543. Not sure if that is a really good score or not. The thing is I am so impressed with the sempron setup I am thinking of doing some upgrades.

I am looking at getting a.

Sempron 3100 and O/C 2.6-2.7, read reviews that said it is possible on stock air. I have water cooling.
and some nf3 motherboard not sure which one yet.

What kind of scores do you think I will get.

thanks

There are two kinds of 3100+ semprons: "paris" and "palermo". Although I'm using the paris core at the moment, I'm just astounded that this fella I got is running very well. I bumped up the FSB @ 230 Mhz, and got 2.069 Ghz right at it. Although I can push up 240 + and 250 mhz easily, but my mobo just can reach only @ 250 mhz. So, just to be in the safe side, I remained @ 230 Mhz for the past few months and it went swell since then. Although I'm using a stock fan and heatsink atm, but this sucker can be a bit hot @ 230 mhz. Depending on the ambient temp (It's really hot during the afternoon, even myself sweating in the blistering heat). Ranging 33-39 C idle and 52-54 load. It gets loud, but I have enough exhaust fans doing the job nicely (1 80 mm, 2 pci exhaust fans, PSU with a exhaust right under the cpu), and two intakes. All cables tied up and some sleevings. Atm, the cpu is 38 C, which is great :D

My rig is on a link right @ the sig. So you have an idea with the set up I got, and a vid card X850XT agp, which is very comparable to your system's X800XTPE (although the card you have can outperform mines ;) ) By the looks of it, you hit right on the spot w/ the setup you have. Now try the 3dmark05 scores, that's where the sweetspot is :p

And also the scores of my 3dmarks on the sig, the CPU OC like I showed right above, and also the Vid card is on stock speeds. Using 5.6 cat drivers atm @ optimal settings. But raising the mip maps on very high. The difference on the scores are very minimal.

As for getting a newer sempron, I would really recommend a new PSU, it really helps honestly. Especially the new VGA card you have, and planning on overclocking the CPU. I'm sure that upgrade is a necessity.
