GONE - I don't really don't need it... any takers? PM if you want it... cost will be $21.54 + Paypal fees (2.9% + $0.30) = $22.47... rounded up to $22.50, and I'll ship for free via USPS.

I have a feeling we'll see a nice combo deal on Friday... will keep you guys updated.
 for ignoring some of these bean counters and sharing a hot deal with a non-local.

I'm using an LCD at 1280x1024 and just your post took up my entire screen. Was it worth it to write all that crap for $0.00?

One way to have them look up the item is to just give them the PLU, don't bother telling them what you want as if they find out they can't make much of a commission on it, they won't bother.

Just got back from Sacramento Frys. Dont bother getting the CPUs from that store. All their cheap CPUs are open box. I was lucky enough to score two sealed sempron 2600+.

Here are other CPUs on clearance:
Sempron 3100+ socket A $19.90
OPteron 244 $39.90 - too bad OOS, I would have bought one

Oh man, come on, it's not that bad.

The reason why they're still up there is the stickers are just set in order of what the company has until everyone has sold it out. We're there from 9pm till after midnight changing prices for everything discontinued and everything out of stock. I'm sorry they aren't doing their job as well as they should be. When you go through that much volume, it takes a couple days for it to register they are all gone before they can replace the sticker.

Look, these processors are old. Most of them, if not all of them, at every store is a return due to a bad ECS board or a customer that can't figure out how to build a computer correctly. I have no problem whatsoever selling discontinued stuff. We're just used to most people blowing up about open boxed products. There's a reason why it's so cheap, we don't want them anymore and the majority of people don't either.

About the SKU's thing in the computer. Our system just never gets rid of the products we've sold. It's there to keep reference to what was available. It's great for when a customer comes in and says, I have an Asus P4CE-D motherboard and I want memory, but have no idea what kind. So then we can look it up.

There are some lucky times when something shows up clearance that is good.

And, AkumaX, I'll personally check for you tomorrow morning if we have any available. I'll buy one for you if we do, just give me the address. =) Alright? I really don't want you to hate the company for some bad people. There are some of us that honestly try hard to make the money we do. If anything, it's the local stores that teach these things of bait and switch or the such, not home office. Everything from home office is pushing more and more and more customer service. I think it's just the nature of the beast. We're a mom and pop store just blown up so large, and it's hard to get good workers. Trust me. We pay well, and if you are a smart person, and try hard and have some values, you can get somewhere. Just some kids are stupid.

I know Mr. Fry himself, (Randy) cares a great deal about service. He's on videoconferencing every week pleading with us to do better. He even sends out hand written letters commeneding workers when he receives a good report.

I'm sorry for the people that make the trip bad for you.

Thanks,
Aaron

You just posted Twice...hopefully, it wasnt the Frys computer 😉

Oh...and talking about "We Pay Well" and "values" dont work at Frys. Frys works on Commission system (the employees get a base rate + commission on the sales they make). I know a few people who left Frys b/c they were forced by their Managers/Supervisors at Frys to lie to customers to upsell.

This is natural and I know the pressure from Managers and pressure on Managers from Department head and this happens everywhere but please dont come back and say that it doesnt happens at your store. It happens everywhere where there are salesperson working on commission basis and it is just the nature of things. (Not blaming you here). This was one reason why CC got rid of commission.

The upselling has happened to me personally.
For Ex: Today I was at the store (in one of the locations in the Bay Area) to purchase an Intel Combo. I specifically told the salesperson what combo I wanted. First he told me that the other combo (cheaper Intel combo with a cheaper CPU) was better than this combo that I wanted to purchase. I told him NO and that I wanted the particular combo I am asking for (which came with the ECS board). Then he says that there is another combo with the ASUS board and that ECS boards are not that good and to get the ASUS combo (another different combo with Cheaper CPU and higher priced combo than the one I wanted) and I again had to tell him that I wanted that specific combo only.

Then he wandered away for a good 7-10 min pretending that he couldnt find the SKU number for the combo I wanted. (probably b/c he was not going to get enough commission on the sale to me). I had to go to another sales person to get me a printout.

Again, I understand the nature of things here but pls dont say that these things dont happen at your store.

I believe you mean "with all DUE respect".
And you have no idea what I may or may not be thinking.
What I was thinking was, if someone was going to Fry's anyway they could pick one up for me and make a little money on the side. Sorry if it looked like I was asking someone to make a trip just to buy me a cpu. Besides, I just offered an amount and no one made a suggestion of a different price.

see...thats right...i didnt know what you were thinking 😉 and my estimate about your thinking was wrong (wish I had those powers ----- What Women Want movie comes to mind) 😛

But again, my calculation is as follows:
Cost of CPU: $19.90 + 8.75% CA tax in Bay Area (might be little higher/lower depending on County) = ~21.65

You are willing to Pay: $30.00
PayPal Fees: ~$1.00
NET in Hand: ~$29.00

~$29.00 - ~$21.65 = ~$7.35
For the retail Package, I would guess the weight to be 2Lb atleast.
Priority mail for 2Lb from West Coast to East Coast: $6.05

NET LEFT: ~$7.35 - $6.05 = ~$1.30 left in my pocket.

GAS in the bay Area is ~$3.00/Gallon. Lets take mileage as 30mpg for the car. Lets say that the Post Office is ~3 miles (3x2 = 6 miles round trip - for some, it will be less or it might be more)
Gas Cost for 6 mile round trip: ~$0.60

so: ~$1.30 - $0.60 = ~$0.70 left in my pocket....BUT oh wait...I forgot wear and tear on my car for that 6 miles 😉, time to find parking, wait in line at the post office etc etc.....and I forgot again....I need to pack the CPU, so packing tape and shipping label (ink and Paper cost).

Do you think it is really worth for someone to do all this for ~$0.70 ???????

Now, you will say that you only want someone to do this who was going to FRYS and going to Post Office also.....but again only ~$0.70 (or ~$1.30 without GAS costs if you do Carrier Pickup and WAIT for the postman to come pick it up) after everything ???

and then there is a risk of the package getting lost in the mail/you not getting it in time etc etc.

Again, I am not trying to be rude but just giving the real picture. Oh and I do mean "with all due respect" this time. 🙂

Why the fsck would I pay for shipping?

akeefer/Aaron,

Fry's really should have some kind of PR Rep on the forums like this, because the 'net is full of people who talk about Fry's

Congrats to those who scored in on this deal! Apparently for me, it was just the case of a "determined" CSR who was trying to maximize on his commission... he didn't even try to look up stock status on ANY of the CPUs listed, only to tell me that they're "discontinued" and all "OOS", which pissed me off.

Some CSR's are helpful, and are actually customer service-oriented, but others are trying to make $$$ and are sick of getting $.50 commission per advertised ECS combo. I've seen personally, how a guy came in asking for a $150 Intel/ECS Combo, to getting a printout of a $250 CPU (it was the same, but had a different PLU number), a $150 motherboard, and had the Extended Performance guarantee tacked on, all without the customer knowing.

There isn't commission on everything. We're tracked based on the profit we make. Doesn't affect our pay, more just bragging rights. Motherboards/Processors don't pay the commission. It's just for the love of it. There is though provisions over offering to upsell, in contract law, but bait and switch is just totally denying access to an advertised contract to a sale. Now on the days you can get an Asus upgrade for a reasonable amount, it's something I mention, I can't help that ECS fails moreso than others. Other combos with Asus and Abit, and others are still at times $30-$100 regular.

Of course there's pressure to upsell. It's business. I didn't mean to say that. It's just that the people that constantly refuse to sell what's advertised is what makes me mad. Yes, there's value in sale items, yes it's cheap, but you also get what you pay for. True, if you just want the processor, it's good, but if you're getting the ECS and Pentium D 805 and expect it to get to 4.1GHz on the ECS, good luck. People just don't feel that way most of the time. I wouldn't mislead someone about putting the wrong PLU on something for the same thing. That sucks.

Performance Service contracts... honestly, yes, you're suppose to try to sell them. Me? Do I buy it? Depends. Motherboard and Processor? No, not always. Motherboard? Yes. Hard Drive? Yes. Things that very well may fail, it's nice to have. I've had tons of MB's replaced in the past on their bill. When I get a board, I add the $20 2 year. Only on instant exchange contracts though. The ones for service only, isn't very appealing.

Anyway, business is cutthroat. Sometimes it just makes me sick. I'm just trying to be balanced between my job of selling with my desire to be helpful.

BTW, I'm the usually the #2 highest paid in the department. Honesty pays. I know people who will just not work with specific people due to bad experiences.

Very true. I had one occasion where I purchased a motherboard combo and the sales rep put the "installation" on my receipt. I didnt check it until I went to the cashier and then saw it, and then I had to go back to the sales rep to have it removed....(Extra trip). There are always people like that.

But honesty will always come out ahead in the long run. Good luck to you.

Oh...so you want someone to go get a CPU from a Frys store, drive down to the post office and ship it to you for FREE and you would only pay that person the price of the CPU ? Just wondering, if your price will include the tax also or not ?

this is true, $29.99 for the procs, i work in Fry's Oxnard store and we have tons of it and want to get of it.

lmk if anyones interested 😛

I hope you're right...and I hope they're on outpost (I live in FL)...

I need a new board/CPU for my desktop pretty badly and I missed the outpost 3100+ECS combo by a few days.

on Outpost?
If not.. anyone willing to pick up a combo+HSF (if not included) and send one to me, I wouldnt mind paying a little extra for a the favor.

Kudos to you akeefer... if only more salespeople had your ethics and sense of service towards the customer.

I have the hardest time finding the combo deals on Outpost.com... what do they list them under? I've had links that take me directly to a page, but navigating through the site gets me nowhere!
