I'm having an issue with too many PCI cards and not enough slots, so a new mb is needed, so I've decided to hop onto the sempron overclocking boat and givver a try. I've read many articles on semprons hitting 2.4 - 2.7, clearly this will beat my 2800 @ 1.8. Question is, which are the better semprons do attain such a decent overclock? 2600's are 80$ CDN, and the Asus K8N NF3 (not E) is 90$, do these seem like a good pair? I'm going to buy it all tomorrow, so any help would be appreciated.

Any Palermo based Sempron should get you 2.2-2.5.

A 2600+ Winchester based one I bought for my brother could do 315mhz fsb. That equals: 2520mhz.

I would think that a Palermo based on the new Venice core, could do at least 2.2-2.5ghz also.

But as with ocing, you could get a dud.

yes get a palermo core for sure. even the 2500+ is a great oc'er. I'm still testing mine, but it looks good so far at 2.35ghz. I'd recommend the DFI NF4x board if u want pci-express. mine's sitting pretty at 340 htt with the fan removed from the nf4 north bridge!!!!!. I do have a panaflo blowing onto it though. not bad for a $60 64bit chip and $75 board.

Only boards available to me are the Asus K8N nf3 and the MSI K8T Neo V (I don't think its a K8T800 Pro so that'd make oc'ing useless). Sadly thats all the selection I have thats local, anything else I would have to order from Tiger direct. 2.5 would make me happy for long time, PCI-E isn't something I could use for a long time since I'm content with my 9800 Pro.

Is this board worth not being patient for shipping? I think I'm set on the 2600 sempron, so many good reviews have swayed me, just the board is holding me up. Thanks for the help so far guys, really appreciated :)

Well, after a week of headaches setting the board up, finding out that, with the Asus K8N, if you have a sempron WITHOUT CNQ or for some reason your cpu doesn't have it, you can't add ANY vcore, which totally sucks. Anyway, got it to 275fsb stable at boot, which is 2.2ghz, then upped it abit with CPU-Z's NF3 overclocking software to 290fsb which got me 2.32ghz with stock 1.4v. Prime'd it for 6 hours with no errors, and it only got up to 39c! Idle is 32c in a 22c room, I'm very pleased with this chip. Too bad I don't have a mb with volt adjustments, it probably could go much higher.

So....anyone want an Asus K8N? :p

Specs are:

Sempron 2600 skt 754 @2.32ghz
Tt TR2 M6 (its exceptionally quiet)
Asus K8N bios 1006
512mb Samsung DDR400, 1024MB Mosel (generic, got it for 85$ CDN) DDR400
9800 Pro R360 Core w/Arctic Silencer
2x 80gb WD Cavair SE sata drives in RAID 0
Audigy

I'm a very happy camer! ....course, I want more though :p

Thanks for everyones input! Saved me a bunch of money and headaches.
