Semperon Processors

Well, I built my first computer for a client a couple months ago. Everything went smoothly until about 2 weeks ago. The computer would restart for what seems like no reason. As if someone were to hit the power button. There isn't really anything on the computer, besides Office and AOL. So, I checked the tempature of the processor in the bios. The processor was running at 150 degress. This is just a Socket A, Semperon 2400+ with standard 333mhz DDR ram. Nothing is overclocked and has the retail heatsink and fan on. I did apply the thermal paste on the processor as well.

So is 150 degress Fa. too hot? I would think so but just wondered if anyone else has heard about any Semperon heating issues.

Also, could a corrupt program of some sort cause a problem where the computer just restarts. There are no error messages or anything "weird" to note.

Thanks all

150f -32 /1.8 = 65.55c....

yeah I would say heat may be an issue!!!! The validity of the reported temp may be an issue...

The PSU would likely happen under load...if it randomly started happening in idel mode (nothing running) then it would have probably keep restarting during the restart as that takes more power then running idle...I dont think it sounds like power, yet!!

I thought about the PSU, but like Duvie said, it doesn't keep restarting. Usually does it about once a day. From what it sounds, it restarts when they are doing something. But not program specific. PSU is a standard one that comes with a cheap case, although I know the wattage should be fine, 350 watts. I suppose to be safe, I can just replace both PSU and heatsink/fan. But anywho, I know it differs from processor, but what should be an average temp the semperon 2400+ should be running at?

My sons was 44c idle and that is in a case with not that extreme of cooling (2fans). What I noticed is the hsf was very sufficent as it only loaded to a max temps of 52c with running prime for 24 hours. I was impressed by the hsf(stock)...remember the 2400+ is really nothing more then a 2100+ xp chip and the stock hsf can easily handle that...

I would look into why it hit 65.5c....In loading conditions iit is possible and may have been right on the cusp...

I have two 2400+ Semprons in my kids' computers. Both are overclocked to 10x200 (2.0ghz ~2800+) With an A7N8X, my load temp is 48c. And with a Chaintech KT600, I have a 52c load temp (both with AS5 and stock HSF). 65c seems a little hot. Clean the HSF with alcohol and use Artic Silver 5.

Did your 2400+ come with a copper core HSF? One of mine has the copper core and the other is 100% AL (both are stock). The copper core HSF keeps it about 2c cooler with my rigs.

BTW:
Why does AMD ship CPUs with copper cores HSF and others of the same rating with AL HSF?
