Fi isn't a word. It's semper fidelis, and it pisses me off when marines say "semper fi". Fidelis does not need to be abbreviated, and it's the equivalent of saying "always fa" instead of "always faithful"!!!!

Tell that to the marines and they will kick your ass.

Why? Because they are too dumb to pronounce "fidelis"?

...and it pisses ME off when civilians pretend to understand who we are, the things we do. and why we do them.

So why do you abbreviate "fidelis"? What am I not understanding? You never leave a man behind but you're too lazy to say three syllables?

Edit: And I know it's an official abbreviation that is printed everywhere. If anything, it should make you marines angry that your administration thinks you are a bunch of uneducated jarheads who can't pronounce Latin.

First off, "Marines" is always capitalized.

Second, the term "Jarhead" is derogatory when used by non-Marines. I know it's not fair, but think of it like black guys using that infamous "N" word when no one else is allowed to.

Third, and to address your question, have you ever used the term 'blog'? What about 'laser'? Or how about 'case mod'?

"Oh that's not Latin," you say. Ok, well how about "etc" instead of "et cetera"? Or maybe "et al" instead of "et alia"? Or...ever played or used the term "Ad libs"? Why, that's latin too, short for "Ad Libitum".

Fact is, a LOT of latin words are used in the english language in truncated form. Don't just assume that "Marines are stupid because they can't pronounce the last two syllables." You will regularly hear Marines say both "Semper Fi" and "Semper Fidelis" on any Marine base. "Semper Fi" has NOTHING to do with the administration. Don't try to bring politics into this.

No. It just rhymes so Marines say that a lot. It's simply the official motto of the Marines meaning "always faithful".

Well, there you have it.  cheers.

i dunno about mercanucaribe but frankly I'd rather have a buncha doods around protecting my country saying "semper fi"
than prancing around like faries with olive brances saying "semper fidelis"
who cares what they say if they live and die for our country 😀

That's what the other branches are for.

she'd probably look fairly normal when she isn't flexing. You'd obviously be able to tell she was a body builder but it wouldn't be like "ewww run!" if you saw her just walking down the street.

I think that's an Army girl...saw the pics from one of my line sergeants. And there are quite a few hotties in the Nat'l Guard, but none that I generally see (all male infantry unit).

Yeah, that would explain the "USMC" tattoo on her upper right arm.
