Anyway, my point was, they completely redesigned the card, and it was always meant for VR because, well, CFX/SLI support in most recent games has been garbage. Half the engines don't support it at all, and others have strange issues constantly that Nvidia/Amd have to fix each time they get patched. VR with GPU per Eye (using GameworksVR or LiquidVR) makes sense, as does game development.

The card went from 12 TFLop -> 16 (33% faster), and as you can see, went from a smaller card to larger and now has beefier power capabilities.

Its meant for Developers to use to build VR games or other games, not for users to purchase.

They may say it's for developers but I would bet more will end up in the hands of consumers since we are more likely to make a stupid purchase like this.

What company is going to authorize the purchase of a bunch of $1500 graphics cards when the base spec for VR is a $300 gtx 970? Unless you are making your own engine and have to overcome the early development cycle performance deficiencies, it seems like extreme overkill.

Even if a company needs that kind of performance, why not CF Fury non-x for slightly better performance at a savings of over $500 per development machine?

ADF loves SA when they knock NV, but no love shown when SA knocks AMD. Good to see the usual hypocritical echo chamber still going strong here.

Really? There's the other thread about AMD's live event.

A lot of folks weren't impressed.

The only interesting thing is seeing Hollywood's plans for VR and some devs talking about upcoming games. The rest, hardware wise, was nothing new.

AMD almost convinced me to get a fury x with their slides, good thing it ended up unavailable to buy and it was plagued with coil whine/pump issues making me go for the 980ti.. so much for the overclockers dream and those fake benchmarks

I have to admit, it was a let down with dual fury and no hbm2 until 2017....

If they launched Fury X2 last year it would still be a let-down.

Those dual-GPU cards just don't make a dent in the consumer market. Note Titan Z was the last effort from NV, they didn't bother with dual Maxwell, cos the market has no demand for it.

Gamers who go multi-GPU get more bang from separate cards, and even save some money in the process.

I love the line about a "pointless headline grab ‘event’ ." S/A loved it so much they wrote a pointless headline grab ‘article’.

Remember when SA wrote that anti-Pascal screed and now we're looking at a GTX 1080 launch in May?

Charlie's rep been falling for years, this article isn't going to ressurect it.

We're looking at a 1080 in May because one site said so? That 'anti-Pascal' SA article deal with facts. The conclusion might have been overblown, but there was at least some verifiable data to work with if you didn't feel like subscribing to someone else's outlook. The 1080 rumour is just that, a rumour. I know a guy who know s a guy and all that.

When a site as biased towards AMD as SA is, points out how disappointing things are with AMD, something must be up.

That's the strange thing about this - if they didn't think the Fury X2 was good enough, why spend the extra Engineering resources to improve it? It's not like they are going to sell many, especially when the price is several hundred more than two Fury X.

They have marketed it at professionals, VR content makers and finally, enthusiast gamers and VR consumers.

With the deal with Crytek for VR First institutes around the world and all the Hollywood studios, they should be able to sell the few that they made. I really can't imagine many gamers would be buying it at those prices.

Here's the problem with people who don't actually follow CD. He hates nVidia with a passion. I don't think he'd walk across the street to pee on Jen-Hsun if he was on fire. He is not pro AMD though. He has in the past slammed them. It's just that AMD's fans don't get as defensive and call him out as being biased when he does and point out the handful of times he's been wrong in the last decade.

I noticed a lot of retired nv force at work again lately. Looks like nv is falling behind.
Polaris at the capsaicin event definetely burned (pun) nvidia. But remember hot chilli burns two times...

Turns out Polaris demo was indeed 60fps ultra settings 1440p for 350$.source
200_s.gif

60fps on a location with 3 npcs doesn't sound that impressive.

If they had something to show for they'd display the fps counter and go further into the scene where there's a ton of npcs
