The $230 price is in the store right? With the rebate and all, that's not a bad price on that drive.

For those looking for a review of CenDyne's 4x DVD-RW:

Well, I guess that screws over the Microcenter PM. They have them for 189.99 after $50MIR.

I'm still waiting for that magical deal to use my 104 dollar Staples GC on :). I'm also waiting for the price of media to go down. I honestly think the MPAA is behind the fact that DVD-/+R singles are still on average more than a dollar apiece.

Also, why use 20 off 100s when you could use 30 off 150s?

Also, THIS might lower prices a bit on the Sony and NEC dual-format drives:

Specifications:

DVD+R Write: 4x
DVD+RW Write: 2.4x
DVD-R Write: 4x
DVD-RW Write: 2x
DVD Read: 12x
CD-R Write: 16x
CD-RW Write: 10x
CD read: 40x
CD Audio rip: 32x

Still anemic CD-R/W speeds, dammit.

I'm still waiting for the dream DVD -/+ R/W drive with CD specs like 48/24/48.

Could you tell us which store that might be, so that we can have online price match to their B&M?
Thanks,

I just bought this with the microcenter PM deal... But on the 30th. If I had only waited for 1 more day I could have maybe gotten it for about $120

I would guess that this price was dropped to replace it for the OOS Verbatims, is that right ?

You mean THIS?

Supposedly it is based on an NEC design.

I was able to get this drive from Staples.com for $110.84 after taxes and rebate. I originally thought that I had gotten it for $160.48 when I called on 5/1 after a PM vs MicroCenter at $189.99 (used 110% Staples PM guarantee, $30 off $150 coupon & got Staples to honor the MC a/r price since at the time it was MC purchases only).

Of course, I was even happier when I found out that Staples released a $50 rebate effective 5/1 after my order had already been shipped :)

sweet and thanks for the heads-up, guys! i was about to buy this drive from newegg (labeled as pioneer) for $265, instead i picked it up from staples for $299 +$19 (tax) - $30 (coupon) - $65 (pm to micro center's current web price), for $225 out the door with a $50 rebate in the wings = $175! not as good as the deals some folks got but pretty sweet for the latest, greatest 4x burner!

Hmmm, if I just did an exchange on a defective burner that I purchased on the 30th, and have a receipt that has an exchange date of the 4th, can I send in the rebate? Any chance it will go through?

called local staples to see if it was in stock. it was, they said it wasn't on clearance, and was $230. called staples.com to have them pricematch to their own store, and they did! used a 30 off 150 coupon over the phone... hoorah. i got the best CSR. she woulda used a 50 off 200, but she wanted the full 16 digit coupon code instead of the one i was givin her. so to recap, over the phone it was 300 pricematched to 230, plus 11 for tax, minus 30 coupon = 211 over the phone -50 dollar rebate = $161.

If someone could please explain to me where you're seeing either the Microcenter OR staples online price I'd greatly appreciate it. X_x

Hm, thanks, but it looks like neither of my local stores have it in stock.

A quick question, though. On the MC page, it lists the price... but I'm assuming this is the price after the rebate, correct? Look at the "hot to save" link on there.

I doubt it'd work. :(

I called several Staples stores in the L. A. area and they all were selling it for $229.98 not $199.98. I used a $30 off $150 in store coupon, so after the $50 MIR it's $149.98

I just got this, and used hacked drives (Search A05 Hacked firmware) and got in on the PC CLub deal for 50 DVDs at $35. They burn at 2x baby. I love it!

Looking to do this deal if I can get a pricematch. Staples has these listed for $279-299 in my area. Anyone have a location to match. Called L.A. area and now listed at $299. Need a price of 230 or below or Ill wait for the next round. These pop up alot. Thanks to Mysticman and other great posts.
