semi retarded monitor input question

I'm buying a MB that has an HDMI port, and I'm thinking about getting a monitor that also has it. Would there be any reason/advantage to hook a PC up to a monitor up via HDMI over DVI? Or even a reason not to? I kinda like the idea of having a cable with a very small connector (less clutter)

HDMI is limited to single-link, so maximum resolution you can run will be 1920x1200 which is what many 24" monitors are at. HDTV 1080p is 1920x1080, so HDMI runs that just fine as well. Currently AFAIK the only screens requiring dual-link (which would be specifically dual-link DVI or DisplayPort) are 30" monitors which do 2560x1600 resolution.

Wrong.

HDMI 1.3 goes up to 25*16. You have to make sure the monitor is compatible with that, however.

Dual link HDMI requires a different connector, which has not been used on any retail products whatsoever. As of right now, HDMI is single-link only.

Edit: Guess I'm wrong on that. If that was true, it wouldn't be able to support deep color over single-link HDMI.
