Semi-regular reminder for sane Republicans

I'm having a new furnace installed and the furnace guy is a right winger. What I thought was insane was that he decided to bring up politics in the middle of the install. He goes straight down the right wing talking points, Fauci, Hunter, Covid being a lie, Flu killed more people than Covid. Holy Shit, he seemed cool and rational beforehand. I think we are in a losing battle as places like Fox News continuously pumps this stuff out.

There's something odd about conservatives and their need to constantly bring up politics. There's been maybe a few times that a random liberal has started talking about politics around me, but I can't count the number of times some rando throws out an absurd Fox News talking point for no reason. I've had plenty of people make racist comments around me too. The burden of being a white male I guess, everyone assumes you're a racist conservative just like them.

Greenman has shown he is completely ok with sabotaging democracy under his veil of ignorance, because we all know he prefers a Republican administration, and if that's the way to get it, deep down he is happy. Whether or not he does not like Trump much doesn't matter, he is still complicit and may as well be one of the hardcore Trumpies at this point. In regards to democracy in this country, they are one and the same at this point.

I agree that's a big part of it. I don't think more moderate/sane conservatives LIKE this sort of thing happening but in the end it's happening in a way that will give them things they want and so it's a lot easier to stomach.

For all the people who #bothsides things, who say it's not that bad, who justify doing nothing by saying the other side is worse -- no. It is that bad, and it's not both sides.

I would not be so hasty to shrink from our imperfections. From our human yearning to become puritanical and purge our enemies in righteous zeal. I wonder if it is not impossible to avoid. In general our people will want to go too far. As happened in the French Revolution and various other critical points in human history. We are due to repeat such mistakes amidst the turmoil of dealing with a "death cult", as others would put it.
