Semi-OT: GPS Computer Services is under investigation

Many of you will remember GPS computer services from Ohio... There were several deals posted referencing them here. I fell victim to the $25 sticks of PC133 128Mb ram last June (guess on month). After filing numerous complaints with the BBB and harassing the owner on the phone, and by bringing the credit card company in the mix, I finally received a refund from these @ssholes.

Unfortunately, I have the impression that many here did not receive a refund or the goods they ordered from GPS computer services.

The good news I have is the Ohio Attourney General is now investigating GPS Computer Services. Aparently the number of complaints with the BBB has brought some action...

If you had an unfortunate experience with GPS computer services, I highly urge you to contact Norm Funk, the investigator on the case. He can be reached by phone at (216) 787 3282 or by email at nfunk@ag.state.oh.us

I guess this just shows that maybe karma does work given the chance...

From what I have seen of the threads about these people, the clowns were doing one of two things:

(1) Collecting money up front and using that money to place a bulk order for product, and if/when that bulk order was fulfilled, satisfying customer orders. This isn't really a bad business model, if you can get it to work. Many financial gurus advocate the use of OPM (other people's money) whenever possible. The scheme falls apart when the dealer cannot himself get product, possibly after having sent in part of his customers' money to make his deal.

or...

(2) Collecting money up front with no intention to ever shipping product, which would make them just plain old theives.

It is hard to tell which is the case.

In case anyone else would find this funny...I mailed them originally on November 30th, 2001...on Friday I just got this e-mail from them....
