also the most expensive to live in?

For Ex. San Fran/Cali and Massachusetts...

saw this posed on another site and found it an interesting question...almost goes against their "for the working person" ideology IMHO...here in Ma unless you are making 200K living even close to the city is near impossible and I hear Cali is worse, any thoughts appreciated....

I guess Vermont would be an exception, however there isn't jack to do in that state so should it count? :)

This is only a guess.. Are those also some of the largest cities in America?

It is my belief that there are more rural republicans than there are rural democrats.

off hand I really don't know, I personally wouldn't consider Boston an overly large city, but then again I never really looked into it...NY I would say yes, but I am not talking specifically about the City with re. Boston as the entire State is very very expensive....I cannot comment on others as I have only lived here and DC/VA which was much more affordable by comparison and offered more job opportunities as well...why I moved back is still a mystery.

I have heard that the more education people recieve tends to make them more liberal. Perhaps these areas are filled with rich and well-educated people ?

I always wonder why so many poor people support the Republican party. The Republicans don't give a rat's ass about the poor. Need more education, mayhaps?

Without bothering to track down links (I know I'll regret it), I heard that urban areas are in favor of more government creations, like mass transit, rent freeze, smog control etc., and generally see a larger role for government in their lives. Just the opposite for folks accustomed to fending for themselves.

Na. Once you begin your education in life with some college, you begin to feel very self-conscious of your intellectual standing. For this reason college numbskulls gravitate towards the opinions of those generally accepted as the intellectual pinnacle of the college universe...the liberal professors who are teachers because they're intellectually insecure and need to be in a position of power over the impressionable. Also, once you begin to get some education you start to grow more arrogant and ideas such as religeon in which mankind's role in the universe is dropped form the pinnacle of evolution to second best at best become distasteful.

Yes, it takes structure and government to have a big city operating smoothly. Cities like LA are bad enough with smog control, would be unlivable without it. Or how about NYC without mass transit.

Oh yes, thank you for pointing out how bad education is for all of us.
Ignorance is bliss, or so the bible teaches us...

How about: The more one knows, the more one starts to ask questions about what one perceives around him/her? Hence the questioning of religion, government, etc...

I don't know about this one..I have heard the same "theory" before but generally people were referring to college professors and those who made a career in education, not just those who have post grad degrees....

actually, ironically enough alot of Massachusetts is blue collar, just the minority (ex. john Kerry's class) makes such a disproportionate amount of money and can hold onto large plots of land it makes it difficult for new housing to be built (lack of space)..plus Mass has some of the most ass backwards regulations when it comes to insurance and many other social services...didn't know if the same could be said for San fran and others...

Liberals are more successful, and can afford to live in expensive areas?

again I would debate this as seems like some of America's most powerful and wealthy people are more conservative than liberal...

Urban areas of high economic importance like coastal cities are filled with bustle and activity. The cerebral cortex of children exposed to multitudinous social cultural and all other forms of contact develop larger synaptic coordinative capacities to navigate these deeper waters. This is generally what is meant and implied and intended in a liberal education. People in the country are rarely exposed to a new idea, except on that horrible liberal media where people form the coasts arrive by electron.

Wasn't there a study done with mice that looked at how they behaved when the concentration of them got too high in a small area. As I remember it, they became aggresive, anti-social and very selfish.

Moonie, if it makes you feel better to believe what you posted, than you just go right on believing it.

Maybe its because Liberals don't marry their cousins. Which leads to more intelligence, which leads to being more successful. :p So is she your first or second cousin?

It has to do with education. Higher paying jobs go to more educated people. More educated the person the more likely they are to be "Liberal".

Let me make it simple for you CKG.... you live in Ankeny, Iowa you are conservative and the people that live around you are conservative. I live in Los Angeles, California and most people would call me liberal... the people around me are pretty liberal. I am willing to bet a lot of money that median income in your area is far below that in my area... I would be willing to bet that the average education levels in your area are far below education levels in my area. How smart / logical do you need to be to figure that out?

Nuff Said......

I would take the bet on Welfare and teen pregnancy per a captia anyday of the week. Crime is obviously a different story. What is "near" Los Angeles anyway? Clan-caster or somewhere else in the "metha-lope" valley? The deserts surrounding L.A. are stongly for Bush, then again it would only prove the theory about education....
