I have to sell one of these:
ViewSonic A90F+ PerfectFlat 19" CRT Monitor

As you can see, people are asking over $150 for this thing used on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used

Are these people just delusional? I can't remember what I paid for it, but I do know that I owuld have gotten a better monitor. What shoudl I expect to get for this thing in reality? From looking around, I see a Sony Trinitron for $63 used.

Sony Trinitron:

From jsut looking on Amazon, it looks to be worth $50-$150 somewhere. Fairly broad range. Anyway, again ... what hsoudl I expect to get for this thing?

I'm surprised there is even a market for these. I would think you would need to pay someone to remove it from your abode.

People can *ask* any price they want. That doesn't mean somone is going to pay that for it.

Then again, there are some CRT wackos, just like there were/are record wackos.

Be lucky to get $20 for it really.

I tossed a 21" incher in the garbage like 6-7 years ago as nobody wanted it. It weighed like 75 lbs.

CRT used to be far far far superior to any flat screens when those just came up, and it still often is: much better colors and contrast, faster, able to change resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, no ruined view from any angle, and smoother image because of round pixels while still sharp enough if you have a good quality CRT. I'll deal with the weight, I care more about performance. It's insane how you can get a good CRT monitor for like €15 or even for free.

Highend CRTs still outpace 120hz monitors by quite a large margin in regards to getting images to your eye as fast as possible. (Not OP's monitor)

A few months ago I called one of those electronic waste/recycling company to come pick up some CRT monitors and TVs - about 11 of them ranging from 13inch to 20 inch, and 30inch for my tvs..

all are still working and perfectly good except for one...

I couldn't find anyone to buy them....

there's a 24 or 27" Sony widescreen CRT monitor that sells for ~$1000 used. It runs 2560x1600 or something at 100hz. It was the largest CRT ever made. People swear by it. I myself would love to have one.

I recently tossed my 21" IBM P275, it was starting to get blurry. Great monitor new, but I had it for... maybe 8 or 9 years?

It's 24" and it's the holy grail of PC monitors, I'm on Ebay and CL weekly looking for one. It's my dream monitor and I will find one eventually. There's actually one on Ebay right now, and oddly enough it's local to me (they won't ship it) it's $999 buy it now. Breaks my heart that I can't afford it. If I had a G to drop I would be driving to LA tomorrow to pick this sucker up :(

Wackos? CRT is better at everything between the bezel other than convergence. Anything to do with Motion such as lag, ghosting, blur. Color. Blacks.

They wernt discontinued because they were inferior but because they cost so much to make and ship and size was limited due to vacuum tube. A good aperture grill CRT was never less than $300 like $100 LCDs. Most were $500+

They are still very popular for competitive FPS gamers and artists.

The ones you find in the wild are tired. I'd pay $2000 for a brand new one but not $200 for what's out there.

After I upgraded to my 24" LCD many years ago, I remember trying to sell my Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900U 19" CRT which worked great. I kept lowering the price but no one was interested. I think I ended up basically giving it away to someone. I guess no wants wants huge boxes on their desk anymore.

If you wanted, you could have collected a lot of working, free CRTs monitors from Craigslist users like me looking to dump their CRTs. I imagine hundreds of thousands of these working CRT monitors and old computers eventually ended up in landfills. It's too bad no program was ever developed to give away these working computers and CRTs to needy kids and schools instead, in America or some third world country. Or maybe they don't want CRTs either?

I had my Mitsubishi Diamond PRO 2070SB until it died. "upgaded" to NEC 2490WUXI and don't miss it's 70lbs, fat ugly Bezel, power hogging heating up room, 4:3 - but I miss its IQ.

Back when it died I remember taking so many LCDs back to store and reviewing/commenting on them here. At least a dozen. I never been happy with the technology. Someday soon we will rid ourselves of it and get best of both worlds.

There is no money in LCDs anymore - too commoditized so makers will bring OLED or a miniaturized RGB LEDs to market. Instant reaction, blacks, and lower power and smaller profiles than even LCD.

CRTs are not eternal, after a few years they grow dimmer and blurrier. Happened to all my CRTs. Never sold any of them, just gave them away, the space they were occupying was far more valuable to me.
