Being a sys admin I end up with enough parts from helping staff out upgrading and so on that with the purchase of a few parts I can build a box pretty cheap and sell it. Such is the case today! I've got two PC's and a monitor for sale
So this one guy comes in and offers below my bottom line, I say no and he's like cmon and I'm like if you can do better go elsewhere
So he says well company x is selling a used PC in the paper for the same price  so I'm like 'well lets check that out then shall we.'
So I pop up their web page and take a Boo.
Its 250 mhz slower , I'm including 8X as much ram, no NIC, no operating system, integrated 8 mb video I'm selling GF2 mx 32 mb.
non amplified spkrs- mine amplified, 2 button mouse , mine microsoft wheel mouse, mine no taxes
All for the same price, I told him thanks for telling me so I can increase my price
He goes maybe I shouldn't have told you about that
I said hey you want to compare apples to apples great. I'm selling this cheaply so I can get rid of it, see yah !! :D
He STILL had the audacity to haggle. I finally kicked him and said if you find better go for it
People !! :)
Fortunately I've been down the haggle road often enough that I priced it 10% higher in the paper than what I'll take and am getting plenty of calls.
I mean its only been in the paper since this morning. . . .

Meh, I gave up building and selling PC's years ago. The aggravation and declining prices of Systems built by Dell, etc made it a joyless and unprofitable task.

Yeah I only do it cause the stuff just piles up after a while and I mean the stuff I'm selling is good I have $225 invested in it and time ,and I'm selling it for $950 which is still a good 30-50% cheaper than anywhere cause I just want to blow it out , without like you say all the 'hassles'
People still gotta check with uncle Fred and cousin Mary to get their two cents in. Too make sure they aren't getting screwed Maybe I shoulld mark it up another 25% then give them the BIG DEAL!! They'd be happier and I'd make more money :)
Like my buddy who sold and installed alarms systems always told me If you give it away and just collect monitoring they don't perceive it to have any value
He sold more system by charging them hundreds than giveaways with locked in monitoring contracts.
Go figure . . .

Yep, they got better stuff. You can barely hear it. It's what? 2 fans, very quiet, and only one spins all the time (the CPU fan). You can't beat that and the looks!

Had the right guy come to me later in the same day :)
Bought everything no questions asked other than exactly what is in here?
I gave him my best bulk buy price and he was a total pleasure to deal with.
If the tire kickers would not bother I'd do it more often . . . .
I'll be getting another PC soon from my sister which I'll build up but that one is going to the Sis in Law
Then I should be outa it for a while, Oh well funded my new binoculars for hunting :D

It is funny to hear people say how they got out of the business because they cant make a profit...I am doing just fine.
I dont cater to people who want Dell entry level systems, 90% of all my customers are looking for high powered, upgradeable systems...not Dell bottom line, over priced upgrades, junk.

Maybe in Maine but I doubt you'd do that well in Boston or CA. Not saying you can't, it would just be more difficult.
