Selling on Ebay

I haven't sold on ebay in years & had a few things lying around, so I decided to post them.

When I went to list, I noticed you can designate a portion of your sale to a charity. Sure enough, I found my favorite & decided to donate 25% of the sale.

I listed a few other things as well - mostly trying to clear out my office, so I put my contribution at 95% of the sale on those.

I noticed that Ebay uses a 3rd party to collect & distribute the donations.. I don't have the figures here, but I think their fee was about 20%.

Has anyone had experience with donating your sale proceeds to charity on Ebay?

The charity would be better off if you donate the proceeds directly.
EBay is raking off a percentage in overhead costs that the charity could use.
Plus, you may not get the full credit for the deduction.

I know Child's Play accepts PayPal, your charity might too. PayPal still grabs ~3% though 🙁

so.. how did you set this up? you linked your PP account to Child's Play?

Did it exactly once. I didn't like that there was a minimum amount to donate, because a lot of the items I would sell were just to low in value to cover the fee. It's easier to give outside of auctions.

People gave directly to Child's Play. They have a PayPal account for their organization.

You can't link an eBay auction to them, except using that ripoff service). You just collect the money yourself then go to the Child's Play website to transfer to CP's account like Crono said:
