Selling on eBay - really that bad?

I've got a handful of video games and video game collectibles that I've been trying to sell to niche forums. I've moved all the 'rare' stuff but now I'm having a hard time getting rid of the more common stuff so eBay seems the way to go.

It seems I hear nothing but horror stories about eBay so is there anything I can really do to protect myself? Am I pretty much screwed if I don't accept paypal?

Paypal isn't that bad. Ive used it a few times to sell games and you really don't need to worry. If you do sell on ebay its best to put all the games in one lot so you dont need to ship multiple boxes.

I haven't had an issue but I've only sold a few things. I've sold an amp $250, rifle scope $750, supercharger $1,200 and no problems.

The annoying part is all of the god dammed fees. You end up with shit if you're selling cheap stuff.

i sell random odds and ends on eBay all the time, about the only place to turn to aside from craigslist for local ads.

the fees do blow but hey what choice do you have sometimes?

just make sure the paypal addresses are 'confirmed' and all is legit and you should be okay

The horror stories you hear are mostly from people selling high-risk items like laptops that scammers target. Old video games that aren't worth more than a few dollars apiece are very low-risk. Just make sure the shit works, describe it conservatively, ship shit promptly, and package it well. In other words, don't give buyers any reason to bitch and grumble.

Thanks guys. I'm mostly selling items in the $10-$60 range so I guess I shouldn't be too worried. I'll be super careful about packaging, that's for sure.

Selling is probably not as risky as buying as it's normally understood that you have to pay before the seller sends, so you'll already have the money once you ship the item.

Get them to pay BEFORE you ship, and you should be good.

I have a fiber fabric switch on there now, my first time selling a big item, I'll see what happens.
