Okay so I am trying to move some computers on craigslist. I've done deals on craigslist before and sold something successfully without much hassle. This time all I get is scammers trying to take advantage. Honestly all caps and "craigslist item" is a dead give away.

Have these people no moral? They demand that I send them pics so that they can examine it then they want me to waste hundreds of my hard earned dollars and put in my time and pay for shipping so they can steal from me. Someone should start an initiative to bait these guys then put a hit out for them once they give an address.

The worst thing about craigslist is the inability of the vast majority of posters whether companies or individuals to communicate clearly and give adequate details. Sellers trying to hide problems, buyers trying to scam sellers, companies who can't be bothered to use more than three sentences to describe a "professional" position. There's good and bad buyers/sellers everywhere.

I have a little e6400 system now for sale on CL. I'm asking $200 knowing full well I won't get it, so the price is just a starting point to work down on. Anyway I had some scammer want to give me $735 for it if I would ship it to Montana and he'd pay me via Paypal. I told him , sorry but I had some guy in Nigeria offer me $1000 for it. The dumb ass replied asking me if I was stupid enough to believe him. I responded "I believe him about as much as I believe that somebody would give me $735 for it"

Yeah, yeah I know, cool story broD:

It's a pleasure to hear back from you and for this reason I will be asking some
questions regarding the item and will want you to answer them with
sincerity:
Hope its in Good shape and with no blemish or scratch?
because i will not be able to come down for check up of the item due
to my working shedulein FL bound International company in US.
And i will want this item sent to my friend as a present via UPS or USPS Post office.
I'm willing to offer you $430 with the mailing charges via UPS or USPS
Priority / Express mail Post Office ..And the payment will be via
paypal only for security reason .
I will need you to forward me the pics of the item to take a look
and prove of ownership.
Here is my number(I'm that fucking nice...)you can leave me a message if nobody picks the call.
Hope to receive your reply in a shortwhile

See what pisses me off are his demands for pics and proof of ownership... what a pos.

CL is filled with jacktards for the most part. The most laughable are the people who completely ignore parts of your post and message you with an idiotic request anyway. I often get excess PCs and notebooks after rolling out upgrades with clients, and to just not deal with hassling on prices, I post em dirt cheap with the notation PRICES FIRM at the beginning and end of the ad.

A recent example :

Dell Latitude E6500 Notebook, T9400 Core 2 Duo 2.53ghz, 4gb ddr2 memory, 500gb hard drive, intel b/g wireless, bluetooth 2.1, 15.4" 1440x900 LED LCD, Nvidia Quadro NVS160M GPU w/256mb memory, Esata, Expresscard, Firewire, Backlit Keyboard, new battery, freshly reloaded install of Windows Vista Business with all service packs/drivers updated. $200 firm.

Got a couple of 'I'll take it' responses in about 5 minutes, along with a few 'i'll give you 150 bucks' and 'will you trade for my ipod' kind of responses. Confirmed buy with 1st responder, deleted ad.

Just say that you'll sell it to local buyers only. And that they will need to leave their phone number.

When they say they live in some far-flung place in the US I always just tell them I'm visiting a relative there in a few days, and I can just deliver it in person faster than shipping it.

These scammer are always wanting to pay with Certified Checks. My question is where do they get these unfunded Certified Checks?
