selling an item on ebay question

Pretty lame questions, but I am really curious. I want ot ebay my laptop ( I have ebayed before) , but this is a lot of money, so I am curious as to how much would EBAY take out as well as PAYPAL ? If I sell it for about 1200$?

 
start the ebay auction. I believe before you post it, they will tell you the % they take out of the auction.

I know the fees and crap, but My stupid ass cant calculate them if i sold it for 1200.... estimate, if its even worth my time.

If you can't calculate the fees with the numbers provided, I will happily sell your laptop for you at a mere 1% commission (for the first $50) and 19% commission (for any amount from $50 to $1000) plus a 30% commission (for any amount from $1000 to $2000). Don't worry about all the numbers...it's a great deal, trust me 😀

can only imagine it is harder to sell locally. It is hard to sell such a high price item too.
 
Be very careful with the forms of payment you accept for laptops. Paypal and money orders are out of the question, since those are not guaranteed funds.

I would require a cashier's check or certified check from a well-known bank. Also have your banker verify the funds at the time of deposit. You can stipulate in your auction that you will wait 3 days for the funds to clear, if you want to.

I would require a cashier's check or certified check from a well-known bank. Also have your banker verify the funds at the time of deposit. You can stipulate in your auction that you will wait 3 days for the funds to clear, if you want to.

If I was the buyer I would be weary of doing a wire transfer for a laptop; with all the scams going around.

I'm sure if Vivi has excellent eBay feedback then yes it would be an option. But I think phone conversation would be a must.

how can I have them wire me the money? How much would it cost them ?
 
I'm gonna guess:

Listing Fees: $2.00
Final Value Fee (if sold for $1200): $50-60
Paypal Fee: $30-40

So total would be around $80-100. Somewhere around there.
 
Hardly anyone is going to wire transfer $1200 unless they want you to send them a $1500 money order afterwards.... 😉

Seriously though, if you want the most money, accept paypal and USPS money orders.

There is a risk, yes. You can also choose who to sell your item to, to a certain degree.

problem with ebay is the damn reserve fees too. As well, even if it doesnt sell for that much, I am screwed too.
 
Pretty Likely if the retail value is high enough...

Don't set a reserve fee, 1hr before the auction closes, if it isn't close to waht you want, cancel the listing... It saves you money
