Sell me on a new project

So, I've gotten a little bored with the projects that strike me as either fringe or useless. I want to be a part of something that will have a real impact. So, sell me on something new and interesting that I can be a part of.

SIMAP, which maintains a database for researchers, is the project that provides the most immediate returns.

The Skynet pogs paints pictures of galaxies from radio waves.

Many of the projects crunched in World Community Grid are now published and make a real impact.
LHC@Home is a project for numerical simulation on how to run/modify the LHC. This is also real world research.
I agree with Rudy Toody on SIMAP and Skynet.

Increased prevention and control measures have led to a reduction in malaria mortality rates by more than 25% globally since 2000 and by 33% in the WHO African Region. People living in the poorest countries are the most vulnerable to malaria. In 2010, 90% of all malaria deaths occurred in the WHO African Region, mostly among children under five years of age.
There are at least two BOINC projects that work on malaria.

GPUGrid gives you badges for, and links to, each scientific paper published that you have contributed to. Of course, you need an nVidia GPU for that one.

I do like SIMAP, when they have work.
