I have some minced meat that had a sell by date of May 20th. How long before I have to use it? Expiration dates are easy enough to understand. I guess with the sell by date, they are just concerned about taking it off the shelves.

If it smells OK, it's probably fine. Make sure you cook it well. You need to cook this stuff soon though.

if it smells ok, it's probably fine, especially since you're going to be cooking it to a pretty high temperature anyways.

Sell by dates are a scam by the manufacturer. It gets you to replace a perfectly fine product before needs be and buy another one.

It's in the freezer so I doubt it has any smell to it. Looks like there'll be sloppy joes for dinner soon.

Sell by date for meat means if you freeze before then it'll be good for a LONG time... What's meat good for in the freezer usually.. 6 months? That's the rule of thumb I go by.

and if it does smell rancid, just throw a ton of garlic powder on it so you can't tell ;)
