Self pull of credit score

It's the first of the year, so I'm going to pull my free credit report from one of the agencies (I spread them out). I've never seen my actual credit score, and I believe they let you pull it for $5 or something when you download your report. Since I'm pulling it, it in no way affects my score, correct?

A self check has no effect. Too many checks by trying to obtain credit is looked down upon.

I just pull mine at work. They don't care. I do this twice a year, but only when I am considering my car choices.
And before anyone asks, no I am not going to pull a report for anyone, so please do not ask. I simply will not respond.

I don't trust online credit report sites. While they may say they do not share your information, how do you know for sure?
