ever since high school, i've always spent TOO much time on the computer. playing games, surfing forums..whatever. and it's been killing me. in high school, there were many things to restrict me from spending my entire day on the computer. (homework, etc.) but now that i'm in college, the restrictions are virtually gone. and my inability to withstand this addiction has hurt me, a LOT. my grades are mediocre at best, and i know i could do a LOT better. now, i know some of you on ATOT are pretty disciplined individuals. how have YOU controlled your amount of time on the computer to accomodate with your schoolwork? how have you been able to control yourself? what are some methods to end this ongoing addiction?

Schedule stuff to do with people that you have to show up at. Volunteer somewhere, make plans with friends. If you really need to be somewhere, you'll make an effort to get off the computer and out of the house.

haha, well i'm a comp sci major and a lot of my work requires my computer. i guess i want to use my computer as a tool (as it SHOULD be) rather than letting it control my life.

only get on the internet AFTER you finish your homework. sometimes, my homework involves getting on the internet, so I take my firefox, open a couple of tabs, and visit hardware sites, 3D modeling sites and do research all at the same time. i sometimes rip out my memory from my computer and store it in a hard to reach place and remove the power cables but that doesn't seem to work anymore...

part of the time it's knowing how to multitask while the other is knowing how to be disciplined.

Find other interest than just computers IMO. For me, I draw, alot of drawing (check my sig..u see why). Or helping out around the house, or house work u might say.

Homework/study first then computers FTW!!!

The internet is just another aspect of my life, not the center of it.
Your solution is very simple, get a life.

i don't think the internet is the center of my life, but i suppose i could find other hobbies like Powermoloch suggested. the only other hobbies i have are playing the guitar and basketball.. i play basketball a few times a week, but i still spend a bulk of my downtime on the internet. and that's pretty bad..

I had well over 20K posts before my account was fried. They are easy to rack up when you argue with morons like JLGatsby. :D

Spending the vast majority of your free time on the internet means it's your hobby/center of non-work life. Just do anything to keep you physically away from a computer, the rest falls into place.

... just do it? Idunno... if there's something I need/want to do, I've never let my computer "addiction" stand in the way. ;)
