Self congrat - just built my first super duper rig

I owe it all to this forum - wouldn't have had the guts to try it otherwise.

Abit NF7-S
AMD 2600+ (ThermalRight ALX800 + AS3 + Panaflo M1)
SLK3700AMG (Enermax 120mm adjustable X 2)
Crucial DDR 2700 512 X 2
Matrox 550 (Photoshop dude - dual monitor, no game)
WD 80G IDE system disk
WD 160G SATA backup
LiteOn DVD/CDRW
ZIP 250
FDD
XP Pro

Everything came together without a hitch. I was real nervous about using the screwdriver to secure the CPU heatsink but that turned out to be too easy. Applying thermal paste was tricky. I made a mess the first time and had to clean up and do it again. CPU is idling at 45C. Did I do good?

That's fine, 45C is WELL within spec. My 2500+ runs at 41C 24/7. If you really want to you can take the heatsink off and reapply the thermal paste. If it's stable I'd pat you on the back and say, "Good job!"

Looks rock solid. There is a sense of pride afterwards, no denying that. And you should feel proud. Especially now that you can depend on yourself for future upgrades.

I would now download cpu-z, make sure everything is running at spec. Then run some benchmarks and make sure performance is where it's suppose to be.

45c is normal. Other people just have motherboards that don't know how to read temps.

Looks good. Although I don't know why people still use Zip when we have much more reliable CDs and DVDs.

Zip discs are near indestructable.

For transfering itty bitty files now and then between computers. Do you always throw away a CD for this purpose - that doesn't make sense?

dude...your argument is, like sooooo 1999. Use USB FLASH DRIVES! Zip disk suck, since both people have to have the proprietary drive. For about $65, you can buy a 256mb USB Memory Drive and transfer files betwen any computers with USB ports (which means just about any computer built in the last 4-5 years).

CD-RW or DVD-RW is the solution here. Formatted like a HD and you're good to go.
