Sit in a quiet room. Concentrate on your breathing by taking a deep breath, hold it for a count of five, and then release it slowly. Keep doing this until your attention wanders. Stop doing the exercise for awhile and then start again.

If you practice this exercise regularly, you will learn to direct your attention.

OMG... a cure for ADD!!!

Well...I have deja vu a lot....I found out why too.

I have seen future events in my dreams. I'm not joking.

Usually...it isn't anything that important or revealing and it's only something that happens in the next few days. Regardless...it's rather freaky.

Deja vu isn't seeing future events in your dreams. Deja vu is a mixup in the brain between writing to long term memory before writing to short term memory. Thus, when your brain writes to short term, it goes HOLY CRAP I'VE DONE THIS BEFORE.

Foreshaddowing, like dreams, is something else.

No I get the feeling of deja vu because I have "seen" the same thing before. So it feels like deja vu (seeing the thing/event before)

Of course, foreshadowing fits too.

People with gifts are not Gods. They may not be 100% accurate, but some are more accurate than others. And some are able to do somethings and other people are able to do other things. Most people aren't 100% able to do whatever they try to do, and it isn't any different with this stuff. Some are more accurte than others and some are accurate at different times. Its like anything else where human error can be an issue.

It's simple. Saturn has to be aligned with Jupiter, and all Sagitariuses will be enlightened. Like, duh. Now pass that spliff, don't be stingy.

Those that have experienced "hightened awareness" and similar things know otherwise.

I'm a pretty open-minded person. But I also realize how easily people can come up with lies and fantasies and pass them on as truth (and they do). I can't just accept everything I hear as truth, have to have some way of filtering out the junk. Hard proof and science is the only method I know of doing that. Believe me, I really want to believe that there's "more" out there

You don't have to accept them as truth. You don't have to completely discredit them, either.

Wrong forum, Raildogg.

There are some things that are better left alone at places like this, because you're likely to get people with a chip on their shoulder about it (maybe they vaguely remember having more of a mind when they were a kid? I'm this || close to talking rambling like Moonie right now...). If you find anything really useful through this, though, feel free to drop a PM by :).

Yeah, I know, I'm being a hypocrite, with this sig, but oh well.

That's just, how it is.

They also call BS on things that people can't do. Where's the evidence? Where's the proof? Where is it? It's blind faith!

They're calling BS on things they've never witnessed, as if they know that it cannot be possible.

You don't see the foolishness in that?

Saying "it's BS" by someone who's never witnessed or experienced these things is just as much a statement of faith as "it's not BS" by those who haven't. Those who have experienced it end up getting called liars because of the same "blind faith."

They're calling BS on things that NO ONE HAS EVER WITNESSED. There is no foolishness in calling BS on things that have never been proven despite years and years of effort.

I can claim that the Moon is made of cheese. You have never been to the moon, so by your logic you will never tell me that I'm wrong. Likewise, I can claim that the Holocaust never happened because you didn't experience it.

No one claims to know if these things are impossible. However, I know for a fact that there is no evidence proving that these things are possible. Therein lies the problem; you have no evidence, yet you've had a psychadelic experience or two and that makes you psychic, riht? You can 'feel' energy, yet you can't manipulate this energy for others to see.

People claim to be able to see the future, yet they're often incorrect. Oh, so they're not perfect and are often wrong. Do you know why they're correct sometimes? If you keep making guesses, there is a 100% chance that you will eventually be right.

"Next Tuesday it's going to snow. I am psychic, and I know it"
-Repeat for umpteen weeks until it begins to snow on a Tuesday
"You see? It's snowing, and last week I said that it will snow today. You can't possibly doubt me now."

How about you videotape yourself doing some amazing feat with energy manipulation or psychic abilities. Do this and upload it to the internet. You are guaranteed to be famous if you're actually able to do this. No, seriously, do it right now. Prove me wrong.

I don't completely discredit them, but I file them in the "probably BS" category like all those UFO sightings/abductions ;)

Exactly, if you believe in the possibility then that's fine. I believe in the possibility, I just find it highly unlikely. I would love to know if people could develop psychic abilities. I would love evidence first, of course.

And I greatly dislike being lied to. Don't tell me that you have psychic powers unless you have proof. If you don't have proof of your psychic abilities and don't feel like coming up with some, then you're probably a liar.

How do you like your "accepted by faith" statement that nobody has ever witnessed it?

Or folks who are more spiritually aware or spiritually sensative or whatever you want to call it can just ignore people like you and go on with their lives.

Spirituality?

My suggestion is pick up a Bible and start off with the gospels, then the rest of the new testament.

That doesn't have anything to do with the topic at hand, thanks.

Sometimes I can tell when something big is going to happen, like the 9/11, the tsunami, and the earthquake/death of pope. For me, I get a great sense of uneasiness and a weird feeling on the inner aspect of my posterier back. It's not a pain really, it's just really weird. Frankly, I don't like the whole thing and sometimes wish I could shut it down somehow.

it's nice when you get to the meat of the thread and past all the crapper & irrelevant posts :)

interesting topic, i'll stay tuned. i've never tried meditation but am extremely interested.

even if it can bring about a general sense of well-being or concentration, from a pragmatist's point of view, i don't see why it wouldn't be worth trying.

As someone else stated earlier, start by doing lots of reading. My username used to be SeekingTao for a reason... :) I don't claim to be spiritually in tune with the universe or anything, but I don't discount the possibility that someone else can be.

Read Maslow's Hierarchy of needs and the endpoint on becoming a sel-actualized person. Also, read basics of Buddhism.

Screw the low level functioning momos on this board that think post count is a higher existence.

Learn how to meditate and stay in the middle of the road...

also read the Dao.
