Selecting processor for my new dekstop

This is Indrashis.....
I have selected 2 processor which are almost same in price here(India)....
AMD PHENOM II X4 945 & INTEL Core i3 530....
Which of these 2 processor will be good for my rig.....(I will have one ATI HD 5770 1gb card)
Please advice............

AMD here hands down. While the i3s are cooler and overclock very well, things are going multi-threaded, having those two extra cores will be key in the future. I find AMD setups to be cheaper overall as well.

I'd probably go with the X4 945.

It's a bit slower in single threaded performance, but more and more programs are beginning to benefit from multiple cores, so I think the X4 has much better potential in the future.

You can look at AnandTech Bench comparing the Phenom II X4 940 against the i3 530

The 940 is the AM2-only version of the 945, they're pretty much the same except for being able to use DDR3 on the Phenom II X4 945.

no comparison, phenom II x4 is the way to go.

Phenom II X4 will easily out perform the I3 in newer mutlithreaded games.
