Selecting processor for my new dekstop

I'm building a system that will include 2GB od DDR3 RAM & a ATI HD 5750 1GB graphics card.......i'm now stuck with selecting a processor for the rig.
Now i'm not really a computer man but i do know the intel processors(Dual core,Core 2 duo,Quad core) a bit and have used these.
I dont know much about AMD.As i've chosen to buy ATI card which is actually an AMD product I'm thinking that whether these cards will perform better with AMD processor or not.
I have in my mind intel core i3 530.
Can you suggest me any equivalent AMD processor at same price range?

In there, I and various other posters have recommended a few products, and it all depends on the prices you have there.

No, there's no secret AMD GPU + AMD processor combo that makes the cards perform faster than on an Intel.
 
If you're just gaming save your money and go AMD, you'd be way better off with a Phenom II X3 or x4 than an i3 in core count alone. 3D gaming is one of AMD's strengths and it's clear they offer plenty of value.

With a crummy card like the 5750 you won't need much else anyway.

What he failed to mention here (but did so in his VC&G thread) is that he only games at 1366x768. Even the 5750 will look like a beast of a performer at that low a resolution.
