Hello,

I wanted to buy a microSD card for my mobile phone

i am thinking of buying a sandisk, what do you guys think of sandisk?

i did a search for sandisk SD cards on pricerunner and came up with a price variation of 13 to 25 pounds, is this normal?

should i go for the 13 pound one which is this one

Or do the results point to different skews in terms of read/write speeds.

i did a search on kelkoo and again a skew of results. Normal?

I am a bit concerned that i will be buying an older inferior product, so not sure if the price differential is down to an older inferior prodcut versus a new all bells and whistles product.

As far as I know they're all the same. Flash memory prices have fallen massively lately, but not all stores are quick to pick up on it.

For the most part it doesn't matter, just make sure you don't accidentally get the wrong type. Sandisk is good quality stuff, I think the maximum you can get on any phone will be about 4gb or so. I know that if you go onto ebay you'll see people selling 8GB cards, but they're not really that size, and sometimes they're formatted in such a way as to look larger than they are.

Overall most mobile phones don't take advantage of the faster cards, no real need for it. PDA devices and the higher end phones may be different though, just check the manual to see what it can support, and then buy as high as you can within your budget. For me, size>speed. My little SE W810 takes the Sony memory stick cards, it came with 1GB, I'm getting another 4GB one for free, and I can watch videos right off of it no problem.

I would make sure the size is 1GB or less for mobile phones due to the fact that many cell phones aren't really compatible with 2GBs memory cards or higher. I believe it has something to do with the manufacturing process of the microSD which conflicts with much of the cell phones that are being produced now. I remember trying a 2GB microSD kingston or Sandisk and it was detected as a 2GB memory card, but only filled up to a gig, and couldn't go over. sometimes there were problems...

So basically stick with 1gig microsd/trans flash cards right now, and hopefully with newer phones they will be fully compatible with 2gig and higher.

Best idea is to google your phone model and the words micro sd. That should get a bunch of complaints/praise for certain memory brands/models that work with your phone. Did that with my new one, found out my best bet was Kingston and that Corsair wasn't compatible. As for Sandisk, they are high quality and will most likely work, but you pay almost double (here at least: Kingston 1Gb = $16, Sandisk = $30).
