ok... i just got the sound card from pc micro store (from the hot deals thread) and after wrestling with it for a couple of hours, i still can't figure out why the damn drivers aren't installing. my computer detects the new soundcard but when i load up the drivers, my computer hangs. i tried rebooting but my computer gets stuck @ the windows 2000 screen w/ the little blue bar on the bottom. i tried calling philips but they didnt seem to help too much... so if anyone here encountered problems installing or has any solutions, please post it here.

my comp:
duron 800
asus a7v-133
geforce 2 mx
realtek ethernet card
some ghetto @$$ tv card (TV master + FM)
i could list more, but i'll save u the long post

i tried unplugging the tv card, switching pci slots, but the inslallation doesn't finish. i tried the online drivers too:frown:

What seismic edge is this? The PSC704 or PSC705? Sounds like some resource conflict to me. You have tried removing all cards except VGA and then tried installing the soundcard again? Make sure that PCI Delay Transaction is enabled in the BIOS. Also try disabling "PnP OS" in the BIOS, and enable "Reset Data Configuration"

Cheers

I also own the Seismic Edge (PSC705) sound card and am having troubles with the installation under Windows XP. During the installation process, the card gets detected and then I locate the device drivers. During the installation of the drivers, the following message gets displayed:

Cannot install this hardware
There was a problem installing:
- Philips PSC705 Audio
An error occured duirng the installation of this device.
The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device

So far, I've done the following:
*Ensured that there were no old sound devices or software present. However, I haven't purged C:\Windows\System32 because I'm not sure which old sound card drivers might be present here and could be causing a conflict.

* Pulled out all cards except for the sound card and video card.

* Tried another PCI slot for the Seismic Edge sound card.

* Tried the newer version of drivers off of the Philips Web site.

* Set "PNP OS = Disabled"

* Set "Reset Configuration = Enable"

* Contacted level 1 support at Philips. A level 2 support tech will call me back tomorrow.

What I'm considering doing:

* Running a "rebuild process" under Windows XP to see if that process will successfully locate this new sound card.

This sound card is quite the ah heck at the moment - I haven't had a card this stubborn in my system in quite some time. I'll be sure to update this thread with the resolution ... if one exists and works for me.

I was able to resolve the installation issue with my Seismic Edge card under Windows XP. Here is what I did to resolve the issue:

1) Installed the latest (beta) 4-in-1 drivers for my VIA-chipset motherboard (Shuttle AK31A). After I installed these drivers, I still couldn't get the sound card properly installed. However, at least I now know I'm running the latest version of the 4-in-1 drivers. :)

2) Installed the latest (beta version 1.89) Seismic Edge PSC705 drivers which can be found on the following site:
3D Sound Surge - Philips Beta Drivers - Installing these drivers seemed to have resolved installation issue that I couldn't resolve with the drivers on the CD, nor the latest production driver release from Philips' Web site.

Now, for a quick mini-review: Last Sunday, my SB Live! Value was apparently dying a slow death and required a replacement. I headed for Best Buy and picked up a Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD for $29.99 + tax. The Muse was an O.K. card and sounded O.K. when listening to MP3s or playing some games with my 2.1 speaker setup. However, there was basically a "no frills" software package with the Muse card and the drivers didn't allow you to modify the bass and treble through software. Being only partially satisified, I wanted to be sure I had the best sound card that I could get for my $30. Some quick reading revealed that the Seismic Edge (PSC705) could be picked up for pretty cheap - anywhere between $17 and $30 (shipped price). I headed for Ebay and found one, so I used the "Buy It Now" option for $19.99 + $10.00 (shipping). I sent the seller some PayPal funds on Monday evening and the card traveled from the west coast to the east coast and arrived at my house today (Thursday). Aside from my small installation issue that I've noted above, this card is one great card. I haven't played any games using the card yet, but I'm listening to MP3s and the sound is so good - the Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD card can't even keep up in this category - the sound is so crisp and there is excellent stereo separation. Next, I'll try some games one. However, I have to say that Philips did one fine job on this sound card and for the price, it can't be beat. Now, I need to update my threads where I was raving about the Hercules Muse and make the necessary adjustments to reflect this much better sound card.
