What was so great about this show? I never watched it except for a few clips and thought it was pretty dumb. My friends all had the same oppinion. How could this be listed as such a great show? Maybe you had to be jewish to understand/like it? Did any of you watch it alot? What did you like about it? The jokes all seemed pretty lame.

1. I'm not Jewish (flamebait)

2. I loved the jokes

3. IMHO, the funniest part is how everything in the show ties together (see Junior Mints or Jerry's Smelly Car)

I guess you need to watch all of the episodes, they all assimilate together. I think I will remember episodes like the Soup Nazi, Elaine's dancing 😀 and other original episodes like that. God I loved that show. 🙂

It was about the only show I've seen where EVERY character was just as funny and as important as any other character. I guess you either got it, or you didn't. I think its the best show ever.

"Because I'm like ice buddy, if I don't like you, you've got problems"

It was just a great show... I am not Jewish BTW.

I could sit and watch this show all day, I don't know how to explain it, it was just highly entertaining.

Yeah... all the jokes are "real-life" jokes.

Like the "George's Bed under the desk" one, or the "Vacation Trip one, talking about shrivling up", or the "Yada yada yada" one.

They are all great.

The final episode was the best though. It brought back like ALL of the characters that they had injured into a court scene and sentenced them all to jail.

haha.

Watch the Kenny Rogers Roasters episode. Every scene is hilarious.

*Jerry comes into his apartment like Kramer does*
"OH I'M WIRED ALL RIGHT!"

God, that show was so funny and how Kramer was eating that chicken in his bed...I couldn't stop laughing. 🙂

Senfeld took emotions that we all have and asigned them a charector that took that trait to a higher level.

Seinfeld was apathy
Elaine was vanity
George was self doubt and false ego
Kramer was well Kramer (the guy we all want to be)

Favorite qoute->George: Kramer goes to a fantasy camp. His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down two-thousand dollars to live like him for a week. Do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors, and have sex without dating. That's a fantasy camp!

Add in the cat of thousands and the fact that these people NEVER ACOMPLISHED anything of true value and BAM you have a winner.

Anyone remember the episode where Kramer takes over the Horse Carriage for some friend? And he's giving tours on the horse carriage to some Chinese Tourists?

Kramer (In Central Park): "Yes, and over here on the left, we have Central Park, which was built in 1815 by Joe Peppetone....so the Northern Armies could practice fighting....on GRASS!! Oh yeah."

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best facet of the show is how they appeared to be winning, but always ended losing somehow. Look at George getting into the supermodel club, Kramer wrecking Jerry's attempts to befriend a native american, Elaine becoming interim president and then getting audited, George faking being married and then getting busted, Elaine bidding on JFK's golf clubs and having them run over by Kramer and Newman trafficing returnables to Michigan, Jerry getting close to seeing if they're real and having Elaine barge in and spoil it.

The show was very creative, and didn't depend on the canned laughter and predictability so many other sit-coms have. It didn't feel like they were on a Hollywood set because they made good use of stage space and had a variety of "locations" they performed in.

If anything, the show made ordinary viewers feel better about themselves because they see these folks on TV trying to take illegal shortcuts to improve their lives, and failing.

I watch Seinfeld all the time. It's a great show. 🙂🙂

I think you have to have a sense of humor to understand that show.

I think the thing that really made the show great was the complexity of the story line. The only things that made it complex is how each character usually had their own unique story in every episode. All four stories were running at once and came together at the end.

The other bonus was the diversity of characters that Jerry picked for the show. They were diverse enough that a lot of people could relate to their personalities. That's what made it special....it wasn't just another sit-com.

What are the chances of a DVD release?

I'd love to have the entire series on DVD.
I was thinking the same thing. You could probably find some rumors if you poked around some. But I would just assume off the top of my head that there's no major rush since this is one of those shows (kind of like Cheers, MASH, etc.) that will live on in syndication for a LONG LONG time in nearly all major TV markets. So as long as they're still pulling in the cash from syndication royalties, the push to bring in money from a one-time DVD series release might not be deemed all that critical. If anything, it might hurt the ratings for the stations syndicating the show since people could then just pop in the DVD and watch any episode any time they wanted. Wild assumptions though.

As for why it was so popular, in my opinion, it was because this was the first sitcom that totally changed the direction of what sitcoms were doing at the core level (not the story level like All in the Family.) Situation comedy implies just that, it's a comedy about a situation. Seinfeld did that to some extent, but the central focus (at least during the first half of the series when it was in its prime in episodes like the Parking Garage and the Chinese Restaurant) was always on the character's dialog and not the story. Their ramblings, quips and takes on everyday life were what made people really laugh, the stories were just backdrops for them to sit there and make wisecracks in front of. It wasn't like Cheers (which is still my all-time favorite) where there was usually an actual situation/plot presented each week and then the whole show focused around the main characters responding to that plot. A lot of sitcoms (especially on NBC and ABC) now try to mimic the Seinfeld style. And while I loved Seinfeld, I find most of these shows annoying since nobody can do it with quite the same flair.

what the hell? What does being Jewish have anything to do with it? Its a great show for people with a sense of humor.

don't want to call you dumb, but seinfeld is the best show ever. And only Seinfeld and Kramer I believe play as jews on the show.

Jerry - Definitely Jewish
Kramer - Not Jewish
Elaine - Not Jewish
George - Possibly Jewish (although now he's Latvian Orthodox!)

There are a few Jewish-related episodes and jokes but by no means does the show as a whole rely on any one religious/racial/whatever group to get its laughs. At some point in time that show made fun of just about everyone.

And I agree, BEST. SHOW. EVAR. I still watch it every day.

If you don't like it you're either too old, too conservative, or don't laugh enough. Regardless, I feel pity for you!
