Elaine worked for various companies, as did George. Jerry was a comedian. But Kramer, what did he do? The only thing I remember him doing that even closely resembled a job was that modeling gig he he briefly had.

Nothing. How he supported himself was a mystery, and that was the joke.

He wrote a coffee-table book, wanted to start a make-your-own pizza place and designed a cologne.

Kramer usually had no visible means of support.
But in one episode, he received a phone call & told Jerry that "The strike is over, I'm going back to work"!
Puzzled, Jerry asked him "What strike?" Kramer then explained how he had worked at a bagel shop, but had been on strike for several years.
That and the underwear modeling job is all I can recall.

George makes a comment about Kramer going to "Baseball Fantasy Camp"...and made several remarks about Kramer, "...falling backasswards into money, his life should be a fantasy camp!"

So basically, he had a bunch of temporary or failed attempts at jobs, but he never had a consistent gig. Yet, he always seemed to be financially stable.

That should be what you have learned from shows like seinfield and friends....you can live on NY and do jobs every so often that pay practically nothing yet live in a 100 sq ft + apt and be able to eat at a diner/coffee shop every day.

He was a doctor. Martin von Nostrand to be exact

The only doctor I remember him to be was the ASSMAN,

No, he also pretended to be a doctor to clear Elaine's medical records

He actually lightly touched upon this in an interview on NPR.

Basically the real-life Kramer sold this LED technology that went into earrings, sunglasses, and several other novelty items. They sold like hotcakes in the 80's, and he basically ended up with enough money that he never had to work again.

The character of Kramer is based off of him, George is based off of Larry David, Jerry is based off of Jerry, and Elaine is based off of one of their ex-wifes, I forgot which.

So the idea is basically he does whatever he wants and has millions sitting in the bank.
