Seinfeld fans... Did you know there is really a J.Peterman Catalogue?

L

Lola

We are watching the million hours of commentary on Seasons 5 and 6
and they were talking about the real J.Peterman and that it was a real catalogue!

So i was looking on line and Lo and behold there really is one. I always thought it was a spoof on J.Crew or something!

Just thought you would like to know! :)

My friend is obsessed with Seinfeld. So much that THIS is hanging in his living room.

I'll have to see if he knows.

Thanks!

It gets better than that:

Jacopo Peterman is a secondary character on the television show Seinfeld. He is the eccentric owner of the J. Peterman catalog sales company and is, also, Elaine Benes' boss. The character is played by John O'Hurley.

However, John Peterman and his catalog are real?although the company is based in Lexington, Kentucky, not New York City. J. Peterman talks like the character in the show and, as portrayed on the show, the catalog (called the "Owner's Manual") is spiced with tangential prose in the descriptions of the products?hard-to-find clothing and accessories.

After a somewhat serendipitous series of events?a boom, a bust, a buy-out, a buy-back, and, finally, a meeting between John Peterman and O'Hurley (which the latter likened to "Bruno Magli meeting O.J. Simpson)? O'Hurley now sits on J. Peterman board of directors.

John Peterman wrote a book about the company's trials, Seinfeld influence, and more called J Peterman Rides Again, available at bookstores on the web.

At Johns Hopkins for at least a couple of years there was a library that had framed pictures of famous people from the university and in one corner there was an unusually large space between pictures and someone put that poster up there...and for at least 2 years it was there, then I graduated and never went back to that library to check

What bugged me about Seinfeld is that they almost always used fake movie titles. I can understand why they'd do it, and I don't know why it bugs me... but they did it a lot and it bugs me!

Did you know that Prognosis Negative was a Larry David screenplay back in the 80s? So, technically, it's not really fake!

The whole Rochelle Rochelle episode was making fun of the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding feud. Think about it... it really is! ending with the broken shoe lace and crying!

Yeah. The only problem is, it said Seinfeld on it so it didn't look authentic. He took it to his cousin who is a framer and she fixed him up. Black velvet matte and everything. Pretty awesome.

At least it's not the revealing picture of George on the couch.

I am going to have to see if I can find that one for him. I'll make him hang it on another wall. By the way, his mother (70+) absolutely hates the pic.
