Segate 400GB PATA HD $100 + Shipping @ frys.com

Oops, I thought you meant other stores. We don't have Fry's over here in Michigan, so I'll have to order it on-line.

10 bucks cheaper anyway, and you odn't have to pay tax :|

Aside from that, they ahve maxtor 400's for 99 in store without rebate. Wonder what kind of warranty it has.

You have to pay tax if you live in a state with local stores so it's really a tradeoff between shipping and wait time.

The Maxtor drives are SATA not PATA. I believe that the warranty for current Maxtor drives is 3 years but it isn't clear that the one on offer is a retail drive.

Actually this same model was on sale back in September/October for $79.99 and the SATA was $89.99 (picked up a couple of each back then) and they were 7200.10 models. Don't understand why these things went back up in price, but of course none of us have time-machines so this is a good price.

I never saw the 400GB PATA for anything less than $99.99 w/free shipping-- same price as the SATA. Seagate had a rebate that expired 9/31 to sweeten the deal.

I have an invoice dated 9/18 in front of me right now for a 300GB PATA for $74.99 and I think that was as good as it got for PATA.

Yea, forgot to mention it was sata, which I want. I also didn't notice there wasn't free shipping this time around.

I'll probably stop by fry's after work today and pick up the maxtor. I'll go home, find out the warranty info and fill you guys in then.

this drive was 89 once back in sept/oct.

edit: not saying that this is a bad deal. i'm waiting for free shipping to show up before i order one.

Good to know, I'm in the market for a cheap PATA drive.

When I can get more that 1 or 2 I usually get 15 or 20 at a time.
