SIS says she supports AMD Socket AM2

PLUCKY chipset firm Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS) said that it will have a complete line of chipsets which will support AMD's up-and-coming AM2 chips.
It will offer two new chipsets for desktops - the 756 and the 761GX, and four for notebooks including the 761GX and the 760GX.

SIS said AM2 will "fully replace" AMD socket 939 and 754 and will be available in Q2 of this year, supporting DDR2, and dual channel memory.

The 761GX will use Mirage 1 integrated graphics, as will the 761GX. The 760 and the 760GX support Mirage 2. All apart from the 760 have PCI Express X16 support. All support AMD's Hyperscreaming tech, and SIS' own Mutiol 1G. µ

AM2 is going to have the Sempron line too? I find that hard to believe since I would have thought they would use the different architecture to differentiate the lines. DDR2 ect.

I wouldn't mind if the Semprons were on AM2. It would sort of bring the ball game back to a Socket A type thing. It would be nice to have an agreed upon graphics bus for all AM2 boards, and the full range of processors from budget, to extreme, to server.

That way, we wouldn't have to buy s754 if we wanted budget chips, and then wouldn't have to worry over which bus (AGP/PCI-e) to get, or lack of dual channel support.

I hope we dont see socket 939 semprons, it'll just confuse the market. Socket 754 semprons are good enough for now and getting socket AM2 semprons will be enough without having to make yet another sempron line. Dual DDR2 should help out those integrated graphics sempron systems quite a bit, as should the 4 pipeline graphics chips.

Im not saying I wouldnt like it. But if i was a shareholder im not sure I would like it. 939 semprons would be best I think. It would extend the life of the 939 platform which means more profits(and lower prices) for all involved and it would differentiate the two lines.
