Seeking thoughts on Amd 64 CPU

Looking to build my first rig. I have decided on an amd 64 for primarily games, entertainment, and something called the internet. I have no intention to overclock but a few questions remain...... 3200, 3400, or 3500?

Witch of the aforementioned CPU's support dual channel memmory if any at all?

Is there much diffrence between the 3400 and the 3500?

As I mentioned before I am not an OC'er so a venice might not be the best value for me. Any manufacture suggestions? Winnchester? NewCastle? Venice?

Pardon the Noob questions. A little community insight can really help put me in the right direction.

Thanks.

the 3400+ is a socket 754 and the 3500+ is a s939. The 939 allows for dual channel memory (its better basically) What other parts have you got or will it be a complete new system?

Completely new system...with a few exceptions. Ill start off with my current Graphics card the lowly Radeon 9600 Pro 256 Mb. I also have 512 Mb of Crucial pc 2700 333mhz ram. The Graphics Card I will definately use just to start off then upgrade shortly after. As for the ram ill have to look into compatibility etc. But it would be nice to use for a short time to help keep inital costs down. A gig of ram would be Ideal but $ is tight.

MoBo still undecided am open to suffestions. I have the Thermaltake S Viking in mind for the case. Not sure if ill use the stock PSU if it comes with one.

Thanks again for any imput.

if your going to be using an AGP card then you want something like i have, s939 with an AGP slot, 7.1 sound etc etc. It seems to work well and i will be stressing it as soon as i have a card so that i can game with it

EDIT, its an MSI Neo2 Platinum

But I would be giving up Dual Channel Ram right? Worth the slight performance advantage?

Does the Neo have a pci Express incase I wanna go that way ?

Also with the 939 you get the 128 bit memmory width as opposed to the 754 with just 64 bit. Any major diffrence there?

939's the way to go for future upgradablity etc...did you have a budget in mind and were you just looking to buy the cpu and motherboard or other things

Cpu, MoBo, Case, PSU, possibly ram, HD. Odds and end fans and silencing materials. Over all about Id like to keep it under 1200. I want a good buy in the processor the most for my $$ just as everyone does. I play a lot of Rpg games and first person shooters. Ill skip on the graphics card for now since I have one that will get me by for the time being.

Hardley, when DDR2 hits amd64, you will need to throw away that motherboard and cpu.

You still get more upgradibility with a 939 than a 754, regardless.

This is an exeprt from oc caffe that i found.

"When you get right down to it, for today's performance the differences between using DDR and DDR2 at 533MHz, there is little to no difference. Where DDR2 will shine, is in it's overclocking potential and the promise of future applications making use of it's enhanced speed and bandwidth. As when DDR was first introduced over SDRAM, it will be a while before these advantages are fully realized, but DDR2 will be sure to come into it's own sooner rather than later. Right now, there is no reason to upgrade your existing system based solely on DDR2. However, having said that, if you are already thinking it's time to upgrade, I would definitely recommend going with a DDR2 platform for future expandability not to mention it's overclocking potential." -Overclock Caffe.

So the diffrence is negligable for me since I wont over clock.

NEC DVDRW $55
DVD/CD $25
1gb (2x512) CAS2 G.Skill $105
Motherboard MSI NF4 $145
gfx Card 6600gt $180
a65 3500+ winchester $320
Antec Case with PSU $105
200gb Seagate NCQ $135

total is about 1080. i would recommend going pci-e now so you don't limit your future gfx card upgrades. upgrading now with that budget would give you no reason not too. those are no necessarily the lowest prices on that stuff, newegg is just easy to use.

*edit* cases likes and dislikes are very subjective so thats definately something you might change, but if you do be sure to get a decent psu from a reputable name

I cant get the link ot work but if interested in the article go to google type in ddr2 and its the 2nd find I believe.
