Seeking 900NF Opinions

Ok, just how good is the 900NF? Razor sharp? Dazzling colors? I am running one right now that is about to be RMAed because I have been quite disappointed with it's performance. I am really hoping that I got a defective monitor, and that the 900NF is really all I've heard it is. I was previously running on a Gateway VX900 that came with my old system, and to be honest, the VX900 is better that the 900NF I've got now. Someone please tell me that I just got a bad one!

What is wrong with it??? ....I had mine for almost a year now and its been nothing but great. I can't say that its better than other monitors in its price range because I only use 1280x1024 @85hz or below for games. Text is sharp and color is good.....no more geometry problems ever since I got my Radeon LE....nothing to complain about except maybe its physical dimensions which isn't really a problem.

I've had mine for several months now and it's been great. Awesome colours and razor sharp text. What sort of problems were you having with yours? The 900NF is one of the best 19" CRT monitors in existence. There shouldn't be too many problems with it. But try RMAing it and see how the next one works out.

The 900NF is good, and in it's price range, great, but there are better monitors out there.

it's pretty sharp (not razor sharp), and colors are good (a little weak on saturation/contrast for my tastes), but it's not a stunning or breathtaking monitor.

People who are amazed by 900nfs are not used to great monitors.

A Sony G400 without defects is a stunning monitor. A F500 could make me cry.

But you sound like you've got a bad (defective) monitor, or you need a new video card.

Im guessing he means ones that leak through qual control with erros (as all do at times)

That is not true. The 900NF is one of the best looking DiamondTron monitors, though DiamondTron is probably not as Trinitron, but the 900NF is tops in where it ranks. The F500R is off to a different planet.

I'm not trying to rag on the 900nf. I own one, and it's a fine monitor. I just wouldn't enter it in any beauty contests.

The 900NF is a very popular model in these forums and there is a chance that you have a one off poor unit. Remember that on an average day they can manufacture thousands of these units. Monitors in particular will vary in quality and performance, even when comparing two of the same model. This is why I have such a hard time with "my brand X better than brand Y". Many people say they love their 900NF, however others on this forum complain about warm up times, distortions etc. This just proves my point.

A single unit from a statistical point of view means very little when they are building thousands at a time. What's more important is the average of the monitors that come off the assembly line and the only way the consumer has to measure this is by comparing specifications. Unfortunately most of the manufacturers do not publish the important specs like, CRT manufacturer, Convergence, Linearity, Luminance and geometric distortion.

Unlike many electronic devices, Monitor assembly and alignment is mostly a manual process. Since humans do most of the aligning, variation is inevitable. For example: The training of the operator adjusting convergence varies person to person. For the most part when you purchase a monitor or any other electronic device, what you are really buying is the company that sold it to you.

The general consensus in this forum says that Samsung has great customer service, give them a try. Also call the reseller who sold it to you, they may be able to help.

What I have always liked about you, is even though you designed (somewhat at least) a different brand of monitor, you admit samsungs are pretty good and don't try to pimp your own brand all the time.

I have never seen your brand so I can't comment on how good or whatever it is though.

I will never put down my competition, Samsung is very well respected in the industry, in fact we sell the 900NF in our online store. My goal is to help educate and try to debunk the marketing B.S. that they have been feeding you guys all these years.

To bad more industry reps either hide behind alias or do not contribute to these groups.

Thanks for the comment

Jim
