I presume the system was very, VERY cheap... like under $200. That's OK!

...and quit using the big words to try and sound smart - work on basic, clear communication FIRST.

Actually, it was under five dollars.:ninja:

Trust me, this puppy is as healthy as the day it was born: 3/24/11. (Not 4 years old.) Same deal with my two older Optis! I even feel guilty when I get lust for more speed, given the health of my last one.

I also downloaded Dell diagnostics ISO, burned it to a CD, booted the puppy with it and then ran the very, very long test not the short test.

Confirmed what I already got re the health of the system. The unknown, with focus and delving work....become KNOWN.

Okay almost 3 years old. Point still stands its a used system. Thing about computers. There isn't a 5k point inspection. They tend to work till one day they don't and any diagnosable degradation in usability usually happens very rapidly. Point being that they are designed for about 5 years of heavy use and 10 years of very light usage. You basically paid 25% of the original price of the system for both the loss in performance compared to current Tech and the fact that it might very well already be half way through it's usable life. With you having no idea when and what will go first.

All that and you barely saved much over a system you could have built using new tech and new components and didn't save anything over a store purchased Acer/Dell/HP and so on that while not being built in a system you can use as a shield, will probably live just as long if not longer, have warranty for a good portion of it, and finally be as fast as you need it to be. You did state that performance wasn't that big of a thing for you right?

The i7 870 is still good CPU, the SB and IB i7s are not much faster than nehalem i7s. But dude your OP was really badly written I got at the end what you wanted to say but I had to think quite deep over your post, which could be entirely written in 2-3 simple sentences.

Sooooop, when U were gettin out of yr comfort zone (GOOD CARDIO!) and doin this DEEP THINKING....did anything break?

Did u EXHALE ON THE EXERTION?

Let's face it guys - this is a welcomed troll addition comparing to our normal Couch Electrical Engineers and Sunday Financial Logisicists trying to predict and claim victory over the future of the semiconductor space.

This is our soap-opera - now can we please enjoy it without fear of judgement :D !!!

I actually am autistic (Aspergers) and although the original poster's comments were somewhat disjointed his enthusiasm was obvious and I am happy for him.

I'd rather say to the original poster, "Nice one mate", than go after him just for the sake of sticking a needle into his balloon.

Sending U hugs. U R a healthy human and a class act. And Aspergers is thankfully about as benign as one can get in the Autism syndrome-spectrum (as U know I am sure). Thank God.

One more once, I am female. Not that it should matter, tho.

Pls get, is so sad....unhappy humans are often blindly moved to leak/instill their misery onto others....as a doomed defense against their unhappiness.

That you do not relate to this.....is a good thing!!!!

I am now out of imaginary cars....or else would send you one.

I find myself terribly curious about Virgorising's native tongue, though I can't say why and it's obviously none of my business.

I think you are the only one laughing, your posts are full of meandering thoughts and most of your sentences make no sense in any context. Your apparent ableness to communicate has been greatly exagerated to you and futhermore I think you are a third rate troll.

I noticed you used the term "common" instead of "come on" in one instance. I used to know an Iranian gentleman who was apt to make that mistake. It's not something that native English speakers usually do.

If you've found me to be personally insulting, please point out the post by number and I may delete it.

OOOPS OK then I will rephrase it:

I actually am autistic (Aspergers) and although the original poster's comments were somewhat disjointed her enthusiasm was obvious and I am happy for her.

I'd rather say to the original poster, "Nice one dear", than go after her just for the sake of sticking a needle into her balloon (maybe that should read "just for the sake of bursting her bubble" :) )

If you print a lot of text then you should take a look on EBAY for offers for the HP 4050TN Laserprinter. I got two of them for just under $100 (£65) each (that included delivery to my door) and they had done just over 8,000 pages, had 64 MB RAM and came with a network adapter.

I then got two duplex units for $34.50 (£23) each. The best of the lot though is that 10,000 pages of toner costs around $24 (£16).

The offers seem to come in spates so if you don't see any now then look around in a month or so.

My native language is German.

The fact that someone can write in English for your and others edification shows that the person has made an effort - one that is sorely lacking with many who profess to call English their first (and only) language.

I agree, and don't wish to be perceived as belittling anyone who has made this effort. It's just that the OP's phraseology seems strange for a native speaker. I think most of us would be less likely to criticize the perceived incoherence of the OP's posts if we were aware that English was her second language.

SOOOOOOO wrong. Do homework.

On April 24 of 11, when the system was delivered new to the original small business which bought it (they bought two), it was was WELL over twice what I gave, $352 plus 23 shipping.

This chip was originally priced at $550.....right now, you can get one on Amazon: lowest price new still $325.

I only hope you are as happy with your current system as I am with this one!

You seem to be using the replacement cost of the individual components as a measure of the overall system's value, which I think most people here are arguing (in one way or another) is flawed reasoning. Especially since even by your own example the CPU you bought is not new. Used i7 870s go for about $125 on ebay.

Your logic is like saying "I got a great deal on a 1980's sports car I bought for $6000 because a new engine costs $5000". While others would point out that for $6000 I could have bought a much newer and more all-around capable car, and that the actual engine in my car is not worth $5000.

Depreciation of computers is immense, so the fact you are getting it for less than half what it cost new is irrelevant without adjusting for what it would cost to get a similarly performing system today. That being said, the actual replacement cost for parts typically stays quite a bit higher. Old CPU/RAM/etc prices typically go up after becoming one or two generations old.

You're reasoning would make a lot more sense if you were buying scores of these systems to part them out on eBay or something, if you could part them out and make a net profit.

I am a touch typist and quite often I just type my thoughts as they occur to me and because my fingers react without any conscious effort the resulting post can sometimes seem somewhat disjointed - other thoughts occur to me as I am writing and those get translated by my fingers into the post.

I was pretty sure you wouldn't take my post personally and glad you didn't do so. I was addressing the issue you raised and not the person making the statement.

The language has nothing to do with it. OP's communication abilities and attitude towards others are objectively terrible. That doesn't need to be her direct fault but that doesn't excuse her arrogance in this thread.
