seem to start getting it when i play games. haven't really tested all of the conditions yet so not really sure on when the problem occurs. alt-tabbing seems to fix it sometimes. i've already cleaned my gpu heatsink and reapplied thermal paste a month ago. fan still works. i've had the 9700 pro for a while now with this same system, first time this is happening. any clue?

I'd be inclined to agree...

I'd be nearly 100% sure of this if his computer freezes during games/times when the gpu is under load.

This happens when I OC the vid card too much.

I agree with these posts...

yep...take it from someone who's vid card recently went to crap. My fan died and I eventually ended up getting a new vid card. But check the fan, make sure it is running.

A few weeks ago my Radeon 9800 Pro died. I also experienced lines and artifacts all over the screen. I believe the memory was corrupted along with some other things. The fan was working fine. I had my Radeon 9800 Pro for more than 2 years when it died.

If you still have the warranty, you're good to go. Call ATI and let them know your situation.

maybe check to make sure your system RAM is ok. remove each stick and test the system. Thats what I did to make sure it was my graphics card and nothing else. It turned out it was my GPU.

There were lines on my screen too. I tried a different monitor to make sure again. Call ATI to make sure.

make sure you dont have any bends in your dvi/vga cable and bent pins in the connector.
try underclocking your video card just a little bit :)

edit: wait it cant be a problem with the monitor if that is a screenshot so it must be ur video card.

Nothing much more man, just a rehash what ppl had said earlier:

- check the fan if its working
- make sure its not dusty down there
- again have a good ventilation in your case
- your card is overheating, GPU or RAM or Both
- GET A NEW ONE, or replace it if you have a warranty

Your video card is on its last legs. The red lines usually starting at the top and working to the bottom means, get a new card.
You will try to start up and your monitor will give you the news, no video adapter found. Its too late then, so get a new replacement ASAP.

don't assume anything about the warrantie. Some cards are warrantied for 3-5 years to lifetime. talk to the manufaturer.
