The security update below breaks the Nvidia 40.72 drivers. If you install it
running anything involving graphics will cause you to blue screen.

Q329834: Security Update (Windows XP)
Download size: 210 KB, < 1 minute
This update resolves the "Unchecked Buffer in PPTP Implementation Could Enable
Denial of Service" security vulnerability in Windows XP and Windows XP Service
Pack 1 (SP1). Download now to prevent an attacker from disrupting service on a
server that offers private networking and uses the PPTP protocol

To get your system back. Uninstall the fix using Add/Remove Programs. Then reinstall your 40.72 drivers.

I go to the update site frequently and it hasn't given me any trouble here ???

is this update one of the regular ones? or a fix recommended for some other problem?

(edit) just checked, that is the last one I had installed (2 or 3 days ago)

I think you may have some other problem.... ?
