What? What system are you running? I have my MacBook set up to turn off the trackpad when I connect a physical mouse...

My trackpad on all 3 of my macbook pro's is set to disable when I plug in a mouse.

Ditto.. if you go into the Trackpad dialog box in Settings.. it's the last option.

that option has been missing in some models of the macbook pro since.. 10.5.5.

It apparently was removed on all MacBook (Pros) that have multitouch since the two concepts somehow interfere with each other.

It also appears that the option to 'ignore accidental input' option is no longer present on the mutltitouch trackpads either. I know that my White MacBook still has these features, I just saw them last night when I was putting my old hard drive back into it before dropping it off at the store. But it is definitely not on the first gen Unibody 15" MacBook Pro (pre huge battery) since I am borrowing Tyranicus' currently (he is a really, really, ridiculously good friend, helping me out to stay entertained at my crazy boring job) and just checked everything I could to find those options. At this point, I think that I have mostly adapted to the palmrest/trackpad sizes and alignment after 3 years on Intel Macs so I don't need the 'ignore accidental' anymore.

Allegedly you can get the 'ignore mouse' back into the Preferences, but you have to edit your Trackpad PrefPane file directly, which then removes the multi-touch settings, though I am not sure if it also disables all multi-touch (anything past 2 fingers I would assume).
