My co-worker brought her daughter's laptop to work for me to fix (she does this often as her daughter goes who knows where and gets all kinds of junk on her computer). I fixed it two weeks ago and last week she brought it back to me again, this time with the Security Tool trojan.
Now, I thought it wouldn't be so bad, I'm using this guide for removing it (I'm not IT virus zapping expert, I feel no shame in using it!). I used rkill, updated Malwarebytes, etc. When running Malwarebytes though it'll get maybe 25-30 mins into the scan and the computer will shut down...it's happened more than once.
Any idea what is causing this and is there a way around it? I assume it's a trojan doing it but then again her daughter is VERY rough on her laptop (not sure why a 9 year old needs a laptop...she got it when she was 7!)...
Any ideas?
