My mother thinks someone is going into her computer after hours at work. She doesn't have it passworded, and by all means that would solve the problem, but she want to know if, in fact, someone is using it. My question to you is; can I put some software on it that will tell her if her computer has been used after she leaves.

Mmm... you should really get that fixed. Is she using Win9x, 2k or MacOS? There are a few "spy" apps out there, but make sure you pick a reliable one. I've heard in the past that the same apps that keep track of user actions (keystrokes, apps runs, folders & files viewed, copied, etc) were actually opening ports and letting hackers in. I can't remember the name of any right now, but I'll get back to you.

Drop a keylogger on there and see what happens. In the greater scheme of things she should be less worried about who is doing what to her and more worried about her ignorance in the matter of securing the machine. Beat her with a clue stick until she password protects the machine.
