Hi guys, I've never posted here before so I hope this is the right place to put this. I just had someone do work on my home computer; security upgrades, clean up, and changed my browser to Firefox. After they left I logged on line to check things out and noticed under recent history that the website to my online bank/credit card was listed. Since Firefox is new the only history saved is just the few sites since the switch over. I had not gone to the bank site!

I'm not computer savvy at all but this raises red flags for me. Do I have a problem with security? This person comes recommended which makes me feel
like I'm being paranoid, but I have to be sure. Input very much appreciated.

Is your banking website a bookmark? Perhaps he simply copied your bookmarks over and checked to make sure they were there. In doing so accidentally clicked it.

Considering he knows enough to clean up your computer for you, if he was doing something malicious, I'd imagine he'd be smart enough to know how to clear the history.

In any event, if it was a fresh install of the browser then he wouldn't have access to login anyway (Assuming you don't have your account info written down somewhere around your computer, or in a file on your computer).

I'm inclined to say you are over thinking it and you shouldn't worry. If he had malicious intent he'd be doing other things. If it makes you feel safer, change your bank account password.

Thanks for the reply watdaflip. The banking site is bookmarked. Whats troubling though is when I clicked on the newly shown recent history it takes me to the banks log off page and reads; Alert- Your internet banking session is now closed. If it was just a matter of her accidentily hitting a book marked site shouldn't it have taken me to the banks home page?

Maybe I am over thinking it, but this person seems to have a hackers level of computer knowledge and I have next to none.

Check the link the in the bookmark (In FireFox, right click the bookmark, and go to "Properties". If you bookmarked a page that is only viewable when you are logged in and you are not logged in, the bank website might display the error that the session is closed. Even if you are logged in, if the bookmarked URL has a session token (unique identifier) for a previous session it might display that error since it would attempt to use that session, but it would have expired.

Unless the bookmarked URL is just "http://yourbank.com", it's not going to go to the homepage.

Oops. Forget I said a thing. I looked a little closer at the history and it does show more than just the recent, and after talking to the wife she confirmed logging on the bank site this morning. Thanks for the help anyway..

If she installed Firefox; keep in mind that during the installation Firefox offers the option of importing your Internet Explorer history, cookies, and bookmarks. Are you sure you're looking at history stored during actual Firefox usage, and not the IE history imported during the Firefox installation? If she's reputable; she isn't going to be offended if you ask her about it.
