I had to get Government security clearance for my job...

Tonnes of paper work, Interview with the RCMP, Had to get finger printed, background checked, etc...

Wasn't that hard, but I didn't do a lot of the work... I just answered questions... 🙂

Apply for the job, if you get it D.I.S (Defence investigative service) will run a security check to what ever level required.

I believe they are currently known as Defense Security Service (DSS)

Thanks for the info. Isn't it funny that people know they have clearance but not really sure where it's kept or how to prove it? If you apply for a new job and tell them you have clearance, will they know who to call to check? Referenced by your SSN?

every serviceman (military) has some form of security clearance, however, not everybody is pushed for a higher level than needed. For instance, as an enlisted non-NCO 11b Infantryman, I only require the lowest security level. However, I believe all officers and e6's (staff sergeant) have to have a security clearance. MP's also require a secret clearance prior to basic training.

applied after getting the job
this is for Secret, not TS
average for coworkers seems to be in the 15 month time frame to get one

Most of the people I know who have security clearances just move to different contractors and have thier clearances taken over by the new contractor. It's alot easier to hire someone with a clearance than it is to hire someone fresh off the street.

it good to keep the lowest level of clearance that you can have...they cant blame you for something you arent supposed to know in the first place
