i wonder how many people had a password of 123456 or password? So they would still have to identify with a username as the password, but now one is plain text and the other isn't? :hmm:😕
 
unless you gave out your password, i don't see what the problem is?

I'm not sure why they did it but I assume you can go back in and change it?

Because now their username would show up to everyone as their password, and if they knew who the user was before, they know both the username and password now. Not to mention that lots of people use the same password for multiple sites. So basically the forum just gave their password away to everybody?
 
Because they're lazy. A lot of forums are.

a lot of website designers are. i recently found out that my student medical insurance password is kept as plaintext.

how did i find out?

well, i forgot it, and used my email that was on the account to request my password, expecting (because im silly and its 2011) that i would get either a random password (better than nothing) to log in with, or a link to take me to a reset page

i was just sent my password. awesome.
